I was just thinking about all the eras in boxing history. And was 80s the best boxing era of all time ?? i mean the amount of amazing fighters was incredible. Plus 80s also had some of the most memorable fights of all time like, Hearns vs Hagler, Leonard vs Hearns 1, Sanchez vs Gomez, etc.

    Salvador Sanchez
    Wilfredo Gomez
    Sugar Ray Leonard
    Thomas Hearns
    Marvin Hagler
    Roberto Duran
    Azumah Nelson
    Larry Holmes
    Aaron Pryor
    Julio Cesar Chavez
    Michael Spinks
    Mike Tyson

Just to name a few but whats your thoughts ??

There was also Khaosai Galaxy, Jeff Fenech and Hector Camacho (his fight with Edwin Rosario) I think you may be right the 80's were packed full of great champions and great fights.

The best thing about the 80's is that 85% of even the contenders were damn good...Hell the Journey men were good.....like everyone else I could name about 50 more names besides the ones that are already named...The 1980's hold a strong case for being boxings golden era

Good Call. The Mouse cut up more than a cheap remake of "Saw" but really was underrated.Started to blossom Late 80's with one of the best trilogys ever Imo with Paul Banke.Top notch.

Interestingly the 30s was the Golden age.Something I didnt know until a few years ago, not only were there more Pros there were a lot more Amatuers which I didnt realise. Competition was intense, go into some off the top mens records as Amatuers you will be surprised.

In my opinion yes, the 80's was the best time period for boxing, but we all seem to look at things larger than life when alot of time has gone by, 10 years from now we could be singing that the 90's were boxings best time

    Hopkins
    Trinidad
    De La Hoya
    Holyfield
    Tyson
    Whitaker
    Quartey
    Forrest
    Mosley
    Mayweather
    Roy Jones Jr
    James Toney
    Terry Norris
    Kosta Tszu
    Chavez
    Meldric Taylor
    Ricardo Lopez

    Cc my friend

For me..I have to agree ..it was the 90's

    Oscar De la Hoya
    Felix Trinidad
    Roy Jones Jr
    James Toney
    Bernard Hopkins
    Marco Antonio Barrera
    Erik Morales

Those were the superstars but yet at the same time there were great fighters around them and some of the greats still around and dying out as a sort of symbol that the era was changing..

For example the likes of Kostya and Oscar beating the great julio cesar chavez
    Toney beating nunn and barkley
Jones beating virgill hill and vinni paz
    Trinidad beating blocker, camacho

Yes sir, for me its the ninetees

I'd say probably rather than the 80's it was probably be a span through 80's and 90's 86-96 or something like that its hard to just say 70's,80's or 90's it normally spans into 2 decades if you get me.

Back then men fought to eat Scrap...not just to feed themselves but their family as well.....problem is we don't have a lot of coverage for that time period...but I agree with what you are saying there were so many fighters,,,guys fought so much more often then...even under several names...

Thing about that era is there were so many fights and fighters a record with 10-15 losses did not mean you were a bad fighter...just a busy one

The 70's saw a plethora of complete fighters that surpassed all that came before and has remained out of reach thus far.
