Default Floyd Mayweather And A Common Mis-Conception

Ive heard it mentioned a few times over the months/ years particularly leading up to Big Mayweather fights.

People saying Floyd started his carrer at Super-Featherweight. That he is a natural Super-Featherweight, that he could of stayed at Super-Featherweight much longer if he wanted to.

    Let me just say this

FLOYD WAS NEVER A NATURAL SUPER-FEATHER WEIGHT.
Once he left 130, it would of been plain unethical to try to return to it. How many of you realise that Floyd actually had to starve him self for (reportedly) 3 days to make his last fight at 130?

Who starves themselves for days to make weight? IMO If your starving yourself to make 130, then you are BARELY a natural lightweight.

really?? i didnt know that!! In fairness i guess when you look at PBF now at welter he doesnt look too small or out of place or nothing so chances are he cant be natural super feather.

Agreed but i still feel Mayweather was amazing at Super Featherweight and pretty much unbeatable.

You guys forget when guys like he and Oscar turned pro they were what? 18-19 years of age? Still in there teens!! They are essentially boys so of course they are going to naturally put on some size as they get older. Unless their bone structure stays the same which didn't happen with either fighter..even more so with Oscar because he is like 5'10 and a half.

True. More so with Oscar becuase he seems to be at home at 154. Okay so he might be a bit flakey now but he still has speed and more importantly, power. I like the way Oscar always carried his power up.

Yeah, I think Floyd is actually more of a natural light welterweight (140). That being said, Mayweather may not be huge and not have great size at 147, but I think that he's definitely growing into the weight now. Against both Oscar (which he reportedly fought at 147) and Hatton, he looked a little bulkier and than he did against Baldomir and Judah.

Um he was a the weight for 6 years, and he defended his title 8 times after he won it... You could argue Roy Jones Jr. was not a natural jr. middleweight though he fought his first 15 or 16 fights there, but you can easily Argue that Mayweahter was a superfeather weight especially because he was comming into his lightweight fights at the same weight he fought at super featherweight... a guy doesn't normally fight 3-5 pounds above the weigh in limit if they are naturally in a weight class, they come in 9-13 pounds heavier than the weigh in. Corrales was 10 pounds heavier than Mayweather when they came into the ring, that is a sign of somebody who isn't naturally in the weight category, yet Corrales also stayed in the 130 division for a long time. Oscar Dela Hoya wasn't a natural 130 because he moved up quickly and only weighed in twice at 130 against Campanella and Bredahl.

Agree with Teath(man, that sounded wierd LOL) Mayweather did fight 26 times IIRC at 130. And he cleaned out that division. It is true that he looks good as a Welter, though I still would like to see how he does against some of the bigger welters to say he looks like a natural welter.

It's rare that I agree with Taeth but on this occasion I do.

It may well be that Floyd is a lot bigger naturally now and so couldn't go back to superfeather but certainly at that point in his career it was where he belonged

The Grinch I can just about kiss you right you don't understand how many times I've read here PBF was a natural Super Feather the only respond I could come up with was that how can he be a natural Super Feather if he's filling out Light Middle & Welter perfectly.
But THANK YOU! The Grinch this is great boy I wish I could dig up all thos comments about PBF being a natural Super Feather. The hell with that those people know who they are and I'm sure they'll read this.
