Default Why can't some people make a point without dissing others?

First, please exclude me from the group of Cotto fans that is saying Floyd is ducking him. I've never claimed that, nor do I believe it. I do think Floyd would rather build up to it, by either "retiring" first, or by letting Cotto win another huge fight first. I'm sure Floyd's self-confidence and ego will drive him to accept a Cotto challenge.

But since when does that translate into all the crap that Cotto haters still like to spew? What's all this "robotic" garbage still doing bouncing around? Can you give Cotto even a LITTLE credit for adjusting his style against Mosley and outjabbing the jabber? Can you admit that Cotto looked faster and boxed better than he had in some of his more recent fights? And why is Mosley now all of a sudden an old washed up has-been? Can you give Cotto credit instead of dissing a gallant Mosley, who looked better than some people thought he would?

And why does Cotto always need that "one more big fight"? How many more "one more big fights" does Cotto need to deserve a crack at Floyd? Geez... it's like the horizon. Always within sight, but always out of reach.

Point is, you can be a fan of one fighter while giving the others their just due.

as you may or may not now know i would question Cotto's ability on every occasion in the past but he has turned me into a fan over the years

so yes you can appriciate them both Mayweather and Cotto are class fighters... guess sometimes the fans of each get more involved in the arguments than being pissed that this great fight might not be getting made

Sorry Tito but i haven't seen anyone call Cotto robotic in a long time. Cotto has never been robotic and plus he isn't 1 dimensional. He can fight on the back foot and counter like he had to do against Ndou, Abdulaev. He can fight with great patience while being the aggressor, while using his jab to close the distance between himself and his opponent and breaking his opponent down slowly but effectively like he did against Sosa, then theres the reckless Cotto who leaves himself wide open and likes to trade punch for punch with his opponent aka Torres.

And believe it or not Tito im a big fan of both, i have both there career sets and there both one of my favorite fighters at the moment. I appreciate Cotto's exciting style, and i also appreciate Mayweather's amazing boxing ability. And i love watching both men fight, like i said im Mayweather fan and i would hate to see Oscar vs Mayweather 2. Cotto vs Mayweather is the fight every hardcore boxing fan wants plus Cotto is just reaching his peak and has a impressive resume so why not ?? i would love to see it the only problem is that i will be rooting for both fighters if they fight.

in fairness alot of criticism of Cotto has come directly from Cotto's fans digs at PBF. I am a fan of PBF and rate Cotto highly, however i have to say i am getting sick and tired of hearing PBF is 'ducking' Cotto and Margarito becuase i think the notion of Margarito beating PBF is laughable it would be an embarrasing shutout for Tony end of. But i do get your point.....and think Cotto is a VERY VERY good boxer, i am one of the PBF fans that happens to like (and rate) Cotto too.

Thanx saddo. And yeah... I remember how you were pretty consistent as a Cotto doubter. But you did something that true boxing fans do..... you kept an open mind and when you saw enough of Cotto, you became a fan. Not everyone does that. If Floyd-Cotto ever does get made, Cotto may win and he may lose. But it'll be a hell of fight with us fans getting our money's worth.

    I love Cotto...I'm a huge fan...you know that...but I surely don't want the Mayweather fight to materialize.

LOL Ice.... I just came from a post where someone claimed Cotto was "robotic". But you're right.... the number has gone WAY down.

Because you don't want Cotto to lose right ?? but see im different if im a fan of a fighter. I want him to fight the best out there and even if he loses i know he was fighting the best and he has nothing to be ashamed of plus i will still be a fan. If this fight did happen i would be rooting for both fighters i have both of there career sets and im a fan of Cotto, Mayweather, in different ways. To me this fight is a must Mayweather needs to prove the doubters wrong and fight one of the top Welterweights to seal the deal on his legacy, and its a chance for Cotto to rise to super stardom, this fight is a must IMO.

Wack, ol' buddy. You're right... I don't get on very often. But like every addict, I just can't keep away from the stuff (heh-heh). Good to be appreciated by veteran posters such as yourself.

I know you feel Floyd would beat Cotto. I myself see it as a huge challenge for Cotto. But sooner or later, it should happen... don't you think? 2007 was a fantastic year for boxing and, if a PBF-Cotto fight can be made... 2008 can be even better.

The whole point is it is by far the biggest fight out there to be made.... last year for me it was Hatton Mayweather, seen that and as a boxing fan loved the fact they met....Hatton came up wanting but that is boxing.

    also the semi final was
    Hatton - Mayweather
    Mosley - Cotto

i would have guessed that the grand plan for GBP was a Mayweather - Mosley final showdown but Cotto spoilt the party so they should at least continue the event

I kid you not, Ice. Can't remember who said it right now, but I did see it. In an odd way, that's what makes boxing fans unique. We tend to stick with our first impressions for a LO-O-O-ONG time.

It's hard to say Mayweather is not ducking Cotto. The fact of the matter is, Mayweather does not want to fight Cotto now because it is a high risk "lower" reward fight, than a second fight against de la Hoya. Mayweather does not want to fight Cotto for the sake of the challenge or for the fan's sake. He'd rather bore us with another fight with Oscar and make some more money (though probably not as much as the first fight, but more than he would make against Cotto). I don't blame Floyd because boxing is a dangerous sport and you have to look out for yourself financially. But hardcore boxing fans and Cotto fans believe Miguel deserves a shot right now, no matter the money. So if you really think about it, Mayweather is indeed ducking Cotto. He doesn't want to take the risk for the current price. It is what it is.

I respect that.... but IMO, ducking is when you NEVER want to meet a fighter. I think Floyd's trying to get more mileage ($$$) out of a Cotto fight when it finally happens. Now, if time goes by and Floyd never meets Cotto, then yes.... I'll believe he was ducking him. But for now, I don't believe that to be the case. Just MHO, of course.

I don't think Mayweather is afraid, I don't think he would never want to fight Cotto. But Floyd has a habit of taking the lower risk for the most amount of money. This is what galls Cotto fans and Mayweather haters. For example, Floyd chose to fight Baldomir for 8 million as opposed to Margarito for 8 million. Now, instead of making a fight for lesser money that will benefit the sport of boxing and the fans, he would rather fight someone (Oscar) whom he clearly defeated the last time, despite the bogus scorecards. In fact, when I heard the scores, the first thing I thought was that they made them close so that there could be a controversy for a rematch. the problem was that Oscar did not make it very close or controversial. It just seems like Floyd is putting one over on us by not fighting Cotto right now.
