Default I just got done watching a set of Aaron Pryor fights and....

I just watched Pryor Cervantes..Kim..Johnson and Kameda staurday... then tonight the second Pryor/Arguello bout again...Man I know I have said this before but he was a tough SOB!!!! Shit at 140 he may have been the toughest guy to ever lace the gloves...not the best boxer ever at 140 but the toughest to say the least... I don't care what anyone says he eats every 140lbr out there today or even the last 5 yrs alive...Including cotto...Just my opp...I don't expect everyone to agree but to fight him was like stepping in the street and having a back alley brawl...

I agree. Pryor would murder all the current 140 pounders. I would give Maliggangi, Torres, Witter and Hatton no chance against him. Pryor was a beast. Leonard avoided him for that reason.

Pryor Vs Mayweather at 140 would have been a 50/50 matchup in my opinion.

Yeah, Pryor was one of the toughest guys I've ever seen and he was also supremely skilled. In the first fight against Arguello he takes a murderous shot in the 13th round that would have KO'd a lot of guys. It didn't even knock Pryor down. He then stopped Arguello the very next round. Amazing.

There have been a lot of great fighters at 140 - Meldrick Taylor, Julio Cesar Chavez and Kostya Tszyu. But I reckon Pryor beats all of those guys by stoppage except maybe Chavez who, in his prime, was impossible to stop. I still reckon he'd beat Julio handily on points.

I'd have it 60/40 for Mayweather but I agree with you, it'd be anybodies fight.

Pryor was sensational and it's a pity his drug problems prevented him from being a mega star.

I always thought Pryor was one of the best Jr Welterweights of all time, i think he was just unlucky that all the top names were at Welterweight. Pryor was an animal in the ring i've never seen someone just run at you with a barrage of punches quite like Pryor, you should see his fight vs Lennox Blackmore he just tears him apart and when the bell rung he literally run across the ring at him. I also think Pryor has underrated boxing skills, he didn't use them often but when he did he had good skills, watch his fight 1st fight Arguello he had to change his style completely and turn into a boxer. Pryor stated in a interview that he couldn't beat Arguello just by coming straight forward and bombarding him with shots.

Also Pryor's life as a kid was pretty rough as well you should look up on the history of him its pretty interesting.

Can you imagine Pryor Vs. Chavez at there best.Primal instincts abound there. You could make that one in a walk in closet.

Cervantes was brutal fight.Pryor bounced in the first and came back like a caveman.Pryor is one that those past fighters who the more you look back at, you stare that much harder.Honest fighter who left nothing to the imagination....except how much farther he could have gone.

True Enough, Ice has always given Pryor his credit.

I always thought he was fantastic. A really rugged guy, who like many got tagged and retaliated in kind. However, the difference was he did it effectively. My first glimpses of Pryor was against my old favourite Alexis Arguello. The respect between these two men was immense and when I saw how Pryor withstood the previously irresistible force that was Arguello's power, I knew I was watching something special.

It is true Leonard avoided him...who needs a war like that when they're on the way up? A fight with Pryor would definitely leave an indentation on ones career and as I said Sugar didn't need that on his way up.

As for Julio Caesar Chavez v Pryor...Someone said a prime JCC was impossible to stop. Well I don't feel JCC was prime whilst at Junior Welter, I feel he peaked at Lightweight, although I still consider him a ATG Light Welter. And as for a bout with Pryor, I find it so tough to call, but I just give the edge to Pryor as he could take unbelievable punishment and still retaliate.

A fight that I always dreamed of was Pryor vs. Henry Armstrong.

now dont get me rong, iv only seen his 2 arguello fights, but pryor yes he does look fantastic but to say hatton and kostya would have no chance seems slightly unfair i think, dontforget kostya is a 140lb legend and at hattons peak he beat him, and despite what i and many others think hatton may unify again.

Tszyu would get slaughtered by Pryor he lost to Vince Phillips in a bad way. Because Phillips swarmed Tszyu and didn't allow him to get punching room, could you just imagine what one of the best swarmer's of all time aka Pryor would do to Tszyu if Phillips done that to him ??

You know i hate when people turn an Aaron Pryor thread into the Pryor vs Arguello controversy all the time. If you haven't got anything good to say about Pryor in a appreciation thread about him don't say anything at all.
