Ok I rewatched March of the Penguins this afternoon and was struck by two thoughts.
Firstly how brave and couragous those male penguins are to stand huddled together in the coldest place on earth bracing a freezing cold Antartic winter with nothing to eat or drink for several months.
As Morgan Freeman and David Attenborough have both said, surely no greater ordeal is faced by any animal on earth.
Then I had a second thought. Considering this is a such a touching story that has impacted millions of people around the world, and considering that their plight is now well known why don't we build them some kind of giant tent?
In the UK we wasted millions of pounds on a fucking useless Millenium Dome project which gave no benefits at all.
Why not just take the Dome and drop it over to Antartica, or just build another one and stick it on the patch of ice where they all congregate every year?
Then at least they could go indoors and keep out of the howling winds and snowstorms.
We could trial run it by sending out a team with a few Antarctic tents and see if they use them and if so then an international effort could see a nice Penguin Dome or maybe two or three that would keep them warm during the winter months.
Whose with me?![]()
