    Default My boxing routine

    running 2 miles 3-5 times a week

jump roping for about 30 minutes at medium speed every day

pushups every/every other day, depending if i feel sore, increasing amount done per day every day

    crunches same as pushups

    pullups/pullups 5 days a week

    dips same plan as pushups

neck bridges(also called back bridge/wrestlers bridge) to strengthen neck

work traps with shoulder shrugs every other day, increase weight when strong enough

70 lb bag every day for 10 minutes, getting bag next week in room

my goals are- 500 consecutive pushups, 30 minutes straight of fast jumproping, running 2 miles without fatigue, 500 consecutive crunches, 300 dips, 35 pullups/chinups

(will do variations of every exercise of course)

i'm trying to get in great shape, i hope to box at middleweight as a youth and maybe heavyweight as an adult. im 15 and a half years old, i want to reach all of these goals in about 6 months. i'm VERY serious about getting into shape, i've always been lazy but now i am motivated, and am already showing more potential then i ever have.

after i reach all of my goals, i hope to join larry holmes gym which is right near me and become an amateur boxer.

besides boxing, i also will focus on schoolwork. i consider myself very intelligent, my problem in school has always been discipline/laziness. hopefully working out will get me in the right mindframe to not be lazy in school, since my working out will force me to not be lazy.

another question, is it gauranteed that i will sustain brain damage while boxing? or is just another old wives tale, i need to know, i dont want to fuck my brain up but i also want to box.

The brain damage all depends on how good of a boxer you are. If you don't want brain damage, you might wanna think about beefin up your skills before you enter the ring.

But to be a bit more serious, I'm no doctor, but any kind of trauma(e.g. getting slugged in the face) to the head can cause brain damage. While I don't think its GUARANTEED to give you brain damage, boxing can certainly be a step in the right direction towards hurting your brain.
Boxing is like a handjob, and MMA is like a hot sweaty orgy with 5 chicks. I could never say no to a handjob, but which would you rather have?

A lot of people (some authorities say most) that make a career out of boxing as a heavyweight end up with brain damage. The severity of the damage that's done depends on how good you are at not getting hit and how much you spar and compete. If you're a good boxer, and good at keeping your opponent from hitting you, you can avoid brain damage. But boxing is a combat sport. Sure it's an "art" and a "sport" and a "game" and a "dance" and whatever else you want to call it to help yourself sleep at night. But essentially, you're trying to beat your opponent unconscious while preventing him from beating you unconscious.

So if you don't end up with brain damage (because you're so good), your opponents will and you have to be able to either put that out of your mind or live with the knowledge that you helped shorten the happy years of your opponents' lives.

It's also important to remember that "brain damage" sounds worse than it is often times. Sometimes brain damage is so subtle that people will just think your IQ is a few points lower. And then there's the cases where people will think your IQ is in the negative range. But that's not always the case.

It's a fun sport, but I don't understand how some people pretend that it's not dangerous, especially for heavyweights. The first guy that ever taught me anything about boxing killed an opponent in the ring.

I wouldn't say that boxing is much more dangerous than any other aggressive contact sport (like football, rugby, etc.). But if you think you're always going to win, and never going to get hurt, it's probably not the sport for you.

His name was Kenny Vice. He was a friend of mine's dad. I don't remember much about the story because it was a long time ago and he didn't talk about it. But the reality that boxing is a dangerous sport was solidified in my mind at a young age.

Personally, I like boxing. It's fun to watch, fun to do and it teaches you a little about how to defend yourself. But it's definitely not a career choice for me though. I think to much. I'd be too worried about seriously hurting my opponents.
