Default Hamed maybe out after serving only four months

Naz Hamed could be out of Jail quicker than you think.

Sheffieldtoday.net/The Star is reporting that Naseem Hamed could be freed from his open prison after serving less than four months for his reckless driving incident that almost saw a driver of another car die and the total destruction of Hamed's MacLaren Mercedes-Benz.

Sheffieldtoday.net/The Star reports that Hamed may apply to be released on a tagging system as early as September. Than further reported that the road safety charity RoadPeace reacted with outrage to the news of early release from prison, and has called for Hamed to serve at least half his 15 month court appointed sentence.

A spokesman was quoted in the The Star as saying: "Releasing Hamed on a tagging system is a very expensive way to deal with him. We don't think the taxpayer should be footing this, especially given the seriousness of the injuries suffered by his victim."

Steve Smith, Hamed's Lawyer confirmed Hamed will apply for tagging as soon as he can.

Smith was quoted: "He could apply for home tagging within four months and if it is made available to him he will almost certainly go for it. He has a job and a stable home life and has somewhere to go when he is released so it is not as if he is a danger to the public in any way. We are hoping this will enable him to be out for the birth of his third child but at this stage it is unclear."

"Very few people really understand what it means to be a fighter. I hate it when I hear someone say, 'That fighter doesn't have guts. I hate that, I don't care if you're a world champion six times over or a four-round fighter, to step inside that ring, you have to have guts" Oscar De La Hoya

To be honest I think this says more about the British justice system than Hamed as he is not getting any special treatment here. Whatever sentence is given in court can at least be halved and even more so with non-violent crimes.

I personally think that Hamed has quite a lot of free time now and should use it wisely in the prison gym getting ready for a comeback which he has so often talked about. If he does not comeback sfter prison he never will cos he has more free time on his hands than ever now!!

I can't see Hamed coming back, I can't really see him hitting the gym long enough and hard enough to get anywhere near the shape he was in in his glory days.

Personally, I think it is an absolute disgrace if Hamed is let out on a tag even after half his sentence, let alone only four months. The man that he crashed into is crippled for life, and he sees Hamed dancing out o jail with a ring around his ankle! I'd be furious.

Second point is that the Probation Service in the UK have admitted some months ago that they only have the resources to monitor 25-30% of the people with tags, so even if he does break his curfew, there's a 70% chance he won'd get found out!!!

He's not getting anything out of the ordinary to be released after 7 months. Prisoners serving less than 4 years are eligible to be released after half their time, if they've behaved in prison. Even less if you get out on electronic tagging.

I was trying to refrain from social commentary, but it still is a disgraceful situation. I think it is something different when a guy is hit by a car doing 45 in a 30 zone, and that is one thing, but the severity of doing 110 on a blind bend is just taking the mickey. It showed reckles and flagrant disregard to his safety, but more importantly to the other motorist, and if they do get out after half a sentence, then why can't the courts just give them double sentences, so they serve the time they should.

he's just following the law.....our justice system in the US is similar....2 for 1 type of thing....2 days for each good day served....and if it's a first offense it is even more....this nonviolence crap is for the birds....breaking the law is breaking the law....
It feels good to be back home.
