Default Tszyu quit on his stool, does this mean he was not a warrior? Why all the MMA hype?

Kostya Tszyu quit on his stool, does this mean he was not a warrior?

Can you name any other great fighters who quit?

Which got me to thinking about the MMA, why all this hype about a sport where fighters quit all of the time, when a fighter taps out, does this make his less of a man or less of a fighter?

I am just bringing this up because people are calling Cotto a quiter but if you watch the fight as I have watched it, Miguel took a lot of punishment and should have been knocked out in the second, the seventh, the eigth, the 10th and in the eleventh. Miguel could have easily taken more knees a lot earlier, didnt someone mention Gary Lockett in another thread?

Only those with superior chins have been able to go the distance with Margarito. We all know that Miguel has a less than perfect chin but to say he is not a warrior is pure bullshiet. Miguel never tried to clintch at every chance he got, he went to war. Some one mentioned that Hatton vs Mayweather Jr was a great fight. Are you fucking kinding me? All Floyd did was hold. Ricky got hit once and was out. How long would Hatton last against Margarito? LMAO! Cotto did not get hit once, Cotto got hit good and plenty and everywhere. Tony hit Miguel in the head, neck, shoulders, arms, body, hip and even while Miguel was down

    FOTY!

Anyone who says Miguel is not a warrior or a great fighter needs to get their eyes checked.

BTW, how much holding and hugging did Paul Williams do against Margarito?

Miguel could have hugged Tony until the cows came home but he didn't, he put up a great fight.

    End

I will label Cotto a "quitter" or "not a warrior" if he will take a knee again in his future fights...

Knowing when you are beaten and not going on may look weak but has to prolong your career. It is a short term loss of reputation for a long term gain in prolonging your career.

Kostya was pulled out by his corner, he actually wanted to go on.

I wouldn't call Cotto a quitter by the last knee he was spent, he knew it there is no shame in it, he is a clever boxer and knows his body.

The last thing I would have wanted to see was Cotto take more punishment at the end of that fight I think the ref should have stopped it before Cotto had to

Cotto's a Warrior for getting in the ring dominating for the first 6 and fighting till exhaustion

    What more do you want!!!

Anyone who calls these guys quitters are the kind of fans who are are not happy until one of the boxers is carried out of the ring disabled or worse

We saw a great fight with two Warriors that ended with them both safe perfect fight !!

People really should stop calling boxers quitters, especially when theyve taken enough punishment, if they dont answer the bell or the count that just makes them smart. Would people be happier to watch them die in the ring?

And what the hell is up with this thread/place these days. There are clans now? Like people have actually joined Bilbo and VD just to get reps or something? How sad.

Look danny i know your in love with Cotto and all but make fun of Paul Williams is not helping your boy Cotto out. William beat Margrito clearly and he was able to do what Cotto did but keep it up with out getting the crap kicked out of him. So lets leave Paul alone he did somthing Cotto could not do so i give him his credit were credit is due.

I usually respect your opinions, but posting this sh*t over and over again in every post related to Cotto's alleged quitting is really taking my opinion of your posts down quite a few pegs. To be honest with you, you probably deserve the neg reps you've been given. Usually when a person keeps chanting the same sh*t over and over and over again, ad nauseaum, it's a sure sign that there's no real reasoning behind the statement. But again, you're entitled to your opinion, regardless of how annoying and baseless it's turning out to be.

I might have an ass-back wards view on "quitting" here.I do not care if a guy is physically beat down over 10 rounds OR soundly out boxed and frustrated and turns his back........His opponent PUT him in that position, worked for the result and physically and /or mentally instilled doubts and caused they're opponent to react to they're actions, one way or the other.I just do not buy "quitter" label as if the decision making process was ALL up to the defeated as opposed to the victor. You TAKE a victory in many different ways,Its not free and it's not Given to you. No....right now the only thing I'm drinking is Iced Tea

Maybe its just symantics........I just hate that Label as it disparages the winner and can In many cases over shadow the defeat eds past and future accomplishments ??

    " NO MAS"

.... Ok add Morales to the list he did not want to get up 3rd fight with Pacman. However I do not consider any of the mention fighters cowards or less warriors. Infact I praise them for knowing when they are beat. It's a dangerous sport and we have all seen what happends when a fighter takes to much damage, so we are in no position to say when they should stop fighting or keep getting their brain smashed in. Big ups to the fighers that don't know what quitting is too. The ref should protect them and stop the fight but I admired their heart for wanting to continue fighting for example Arce, Corrales.

Montell Griffin quit in his first match with Roy Jones and got given the victory!
