    Default Alex Higgins

A complete legend of the snooker game. Ive been trying to avoid writing my essay and have been watching this instead. Brilliant and mad all at the same time.

And of course this break is the most "famous" break

    http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=df9T5p...eature=related

Which saw him go on to become 1982 world champion.

My favourite snooker player of all time. And like Tyson, had all the talent but had the most uncanny ability to fuck it all up at the drop of a hat.

And this is Higgins from perhaps a year or so ago. An amazing change in terms of his overall appearance.

Pool is played by those not clever and skilled enough to master snooker, it's like the difference between checkers and chess.

Two totally different games, snooker you have a massive table .pool is on smal to mid sized ones.
Real comp pool is like anything else it takes balls and a go for it attitude to win when behind,or being cagey and messing up the oppositions shots while getting yours into position blocking up the holes in front of his balls;(this cant be done in snooker cause you both can shoot at all the balls at any time to a degree.
Certain rules of pool can be as technical as snooker if you can play properly but is easier in the that there are no long shots.pool has small balls and high balls small are different in appearance solid color with white dot with a number in it and number from 1 to 7 the high balls have a colored band around them and are numbered from 9 to 15 the eight is solid black and is neutural.once the break has occured and a ball of either type is planted that person is on those balls ,either high or lows (small or bigs) and you got to pot all of them and the black last. Thats the basics.Snookering or hiding the white ball behind another is ok to do and if the white doesnt hit one of your own balls or goes in a hole then its two shots away to the other guy.

There is a game called kelly pool where you nominate which ball goes in which hole but its gay unless you playing for money.

Snookers better and harder ,no two shots in snooker and the balls are worth different points black being the top ball is worth 7 then pink6 ,blue5,brown4, green ,yellow. yellow is 2 points, green 3 black is 7.
There are 15 reds all worth 1 point each.you pot a red you can hit in any color you wish to (always try to set up for the black or pink of course)and youkeep going until you miss a shot ad the points added up.
you can hide the white ball behind the colored ones so the other guy has a nasty shot, called a snooker shot.If he missesits worth 4 to you unless he was going for a colored ball in which case you get the points it is worth.
Great game.Afte the reds are all gone you have to pot the colors in sync from yellow through to black .top score wins.

Billiards is even more advanced and its played with three balls on a large snooker table, the balls keep being brought up onto the table after being potted ,snookers are the name of this game and points for rebounding into the holes or pockets off other balls are how to score as well as hitting your ball off the other two balls continuously and also potting balls straight down is allowed.Top score wins either on a time limit or reaching a pre determined score.

this was good instant typing practice, thank you.

    Agreed

Higgins is the man who brought the masses to the game and the huge tv audiences. A flawed genius - and the public loved him

Perhaps the most naturally gifted player of all time - it's between him and O'Sullivan anyway (White just behind them). Unfortunately these three all had \ have their 'demons' and because of that ,though they were the greatest natural players the game ever produced, they weren't the greatest 'winners' the game ever produced - they just didn't have the mental strength of Davis and Hendry.

When Higgins played at the top of his game you watched in stunned silence at just what he could do with the cue ball with very little effort.
I saw him once in the pub just before Paul Hunter's funeral . Wanted to speak to him though I didn't deem it appropriate given the occasion. He is almost unrecognisable now.

It's notable that as these characters leave the game the game has lost it's appeal and audiences - should O'Sullivan ever leave the game I believe the game's future could be in serious trouble. The game needs these type to attract the viewers and sponsors etc...

Abd that 69 break Miles posted is the greates clearance you will ever see in the game. Positionally he was all over the place mind !!!
Don't bully fat kids - they've got enough on their plate
