Default What if Eddie Futch was around today...

I was looking through a picture book at the Library Saturday and there were some pictures of a young Joe Frazier standing along side of Eddie Futch...

Got me thinking about how great Eddie was...(IMO the greatest trainer of all time)...

I got myself to thinking ...What if Eddie was around today still abke to train fighters....

Wonder who he could actually guide to a world title or how much better would some of these guys be with him in their corner...I mean hell it seems that fighters today go through trainers left and right...

I would be curious on what Eddie would do with some of todays crop.

For me Eddie never took on the "naturals."

He took on good guys that had a graft for work and taught them solid fundamentals that allowe dthem to be special.

Look at Frazier, not the most natural fighter, but he was given a style that saw him scythe through the ranks, apprehended only by Ali and Foreman really.

He was an awesome trainer, I just wish I could witness more of his work, all I can obtain is in text which is a pity.

I could see him working well with the likes of Hopkins, Pavlik,....hey even Hatton or Pacquiao.

I agree, one of if not the greatest trainer of all time. I always wanted to see him work with Tyson. I think they would have complimented each other perfectly.

As for todays fighters I'd like to have seen him work with this kid Daniel Jacobs

A real young talent in boxing today and I think he could really learn a lot from someone like Eddie!

Tszyu, dont think they would have, different fundamentals on the game. Its who would be leading who, then Eddie would probably tell Him to Fuck Off.

Futch was great, one of my favorites. The guy had more world champions then most of todays promoters.

Read a story about his reservations about Bowe's commitment to the game and him deciding whether to train him or not. He instructed Bowe to go running in the morning and that he was going away. It snowed heavily and Eddie was waiting early in the morning in the car. Bowe did get out of bed and go for a run and Eddie was convinced he had the heart.

For the today boys with Eddie.

I am sure I saw a video of a press conference where Roger Mayweather said Futch wasnt a great trainer. Or am I mistaken?
The Mayweathers are the only people who know about fighting/training according to that bloke.
