Default Who will be the next Hatton and Calzaghe??

Ok folks,as you know im british and your well asured that Calzaghe has retired and it wont be long til Hatton does the same.So who's next to follow in their quest to be notified as a really good fighter and a force to be reckon with around the globe from in and around the uk?

My money is on Kel Brook as one of them.I think he'll be bigger than Amir Khan,i really do!Thats who i think will be well worth watching. Not to mention Sutherland from Ireland

Unhappy Re: Who will be the next Hatton and Calzaghe??

It's hard to tell - personally I don't think there is a fiighter out there who will be as succesful as Hatton and Calzaghe. We wont have another p2p great like Calzaghe for decades let alone years. It's too early to say Kell Brooke will be up there although I've not seen much of him. Cleverley is worth keeping an eye on especially as his strength seems to be improving. Khan will get KO'd again when he fights anyone at world class level, he'll probably stop Kotelnik who is just a paper champion.

David Haye is just wasting his career fighting once a year, he'll get KO'd by one of the Klitchko's due to being so rusty and having a shit chin.

Froch - hopefully Hopkins schools him before 2009 is over.

I was just thinking 2009 has been a really bad year for boxing. The big fights have been few and far between and most get cancelled. Thank God for Fight Night round 4!!!!

British boxing is abit thin in worldclass at the moment.

Haye could be if he avoids been hit on the chin by a big puncher at heavy.

froch is well on his way to becoming a great champ and i expect to see carl dominate at 168/175 with dawson which will eventually lead to a superfight between the 2.

Khan working with roach could be a masterstroke. If he gets through he`s next 2-3 fights against guys like kotelnik who are big heavy hitters and impresses the future looks good for amir.

Cleverly is far from the finished article but definitely a talent. At worse he`ll do a clinton woods and manage to win the odd title. At best he`ll be another calzaghe/froch. He`ll be a world champ one day im pretty sure of that.

Brook very promising aggressive talent. Something very nigel benn like in kell and that`ll sell just fine stateside as long as he carrys on winning.

Murray. Do get the feeling he`d probably fall a tad short on the world stage despite his gift of being naturally aggressive their are plenty of faults in his technique which 2nd/3rd tier world operators would take advantage of.

Haye. Dont make me laugh - by the time david manages to put in at least 2 fights a year the klitschkos will be picking up their pensions

I like John Murray but he will fall short of world class, i am looking forward to Jon Thaxton vs John Murray later in the year. That will be a proper tear up.

Every one of these names are the names I would have brought up. The only other name I'd add to that list in the near future is Darren Barker. When he hands Macklin a beating, fans in the UK will start to believe.

kell brook, john murray, kevin mitchell are all good fighters world class maybe ,definately not elite. out of all the british fighters at the minute uve got to put froch and khan right up there. i think there is too much hate for khan on here the boy has got serious speed + skills.yeah his chin has not looked great, maybe it was the lightweight limit that took his punch resistance. maybe 140 we will see a difference plus he has a world class trainer in his corner, ive always believed in khans abilities. just look at cotto going from how fragile he looked at 140 to going up to 147 he looked so much stronger.one division can make a lot to a fighters punch resistance.anyway fighters for me personally in this country to keep an eye on are matthew hall and jamie moore. i can see big things from them in the next year or two, if anyone has seen them fight u will no what im talkin about.

Well Carl 'The Cobra' Froch will surpass both of them so we'll disregard him for now.

Potential equals to Hatton and Calzaghe I would have to go with Kell Brook and Nathan Cleverly.

Brook looks sensational to me, then new Naseem and I think he will go on to do more than Ricky Hatton, I'm thinking multiple world titles if his chin is good.

Cleverly impresses me, for such a young kid he's a smart fighter and he seems to be developing in his power now. Another Welsh dragon, he could go on to do well.

Kell Brook's chin is still a question mark IMO, that question needs to be answered before i get excited about him.

Hmm.. not sure thats quite right, H.

Think she was stalking him, but actually didn't know much about him, and at the time he had a bad reputation for being a waster. Looks pretty handy at the moment mind.

There will never be another Welsh Dragon.
There can be only one Ricky Hatton.

You guys have Frock and David Haye.

Pity David Haye broke a nail, I was so trying to believe the hype. I am sure that Haye would have got KTFO though. I just know it.

Froch? Well, with a name that sounds like crotch, you better be a little tough. Still too rough around the edges but I did pick him to beat Taylor if that is any consolation to his supporters

The queensberry rule says 'it can't be Khan or Haye'. It will 20 to 30 years for UK to produce another Hatton, especially Calzaghe.

Carl Froch is the most likely but other than that its hard to say.
