    Default Forgotten Fights...................................

    July 17 1944 - Boston
    Willie Pep v Manuel Ortiz
One of the greatest featherweight champs of all time and one of the greatest bantam's square off in their primes , safe to say was a memorable fight.
But in this case , it was anything but.
Pep outpointed Ortiz over 10 in a non-title fight that you would think would have historical significance , but has not. Unless the fight fan checks the records of the fighters, most would be unaware the fight took place.
In that era , the best routinely fought the best , so it was considered no big deal. ( not something we could say in todays modern era )
A similar fight today , for instance PACMAN V MAB is a massive pay per view hit .
So you see its a forgotten fight .
please feel free to post any other you guys can think of ??
    for example Foreman- Frazier 2.

Welsh fella Colin Jones's two welter weight world title attempts at Milt the Stilt McCrory, and the third against Don Curry back in the 80s....God that guy tried and was certainly unlucky not to win the world title in his first attempt

Colin Jones didn't punch much or move great. But I thought he won both fights with Milt. Colin was a hard man.

Zarate's last two fights were against Fenech and Zaragosa. Sammy Hagar said his father fought Ortiz several times as an amateur.

    AWESOME!

How about Feather King Sandy Saddler taking on 130 king Flash Elorde twice! Elorde wins a disputed decision in the Phillipines and then Saddler, behind on the cards, stops Elorde on cuts in the 13th as Elorde drops down to try to take the 126 crown!

Colin also stopped Kirkland Laing twice.

Amazingly Sugar Ray Robinson fought Henry Armstrong albeit late in Armstrongs career, not a well known fact.

Robinson tells a great story about that fight. The reporters asked him if he'd carry Armstrong and Ray said the only way Henry would go the distance was if Ray couldn't knock him out. Well Ray carries him the whole way and a furious reporter corners Ray after the fight and asks why he lied. Ray's Response? "I didn't lie. I just COULDN'T knock him out." The reporter laughed and said fair enough.

    That's a great shout.

The 2 greatest p4p boxers IMHO fighting each other.

It's just a shame that Armstrong was past his best.

Then again, I don't think he would have been big enough to beat a great big welterweight like Robinson anyway, but it would have been interesting to see him try.

Armstrong hit a great run of victories when he won titles at nearly 4 weight at the same time but before that and after he was ordinary.

Some fights that I've learned about over the years. Some of these fights had me do a double take. I could not believe me eyes.

Felix Trinindad Sr. fought Salvador Sanchez - Not a big significant fight but pretty interesting nonetheless.
Vicente Saldivar fought Ismael Laguna & Eder Jofre
Eder Jofre himself fought Jose Legra
Jose Legra in his last bout fought Alexis Arguello
Eusebio Pedroza was TKO'd in his 1st title bout in 2 rds. by Alfonso Zamora
Ernesto Marcel was Durans 1st big win. Marcel went on to beat Alexis Arguello in Arguellos 1st shot at a title.
    Humberto Soto fought Kevin Kelley
Current IBF Super Feather champ Mzonke Fana was viciously KO'd by MAB years ago in 2 rds.
Current WBO Feather champ Orlando Salido fought Alejandro Gonzalez & JMM
For his 1st fight as a pro, Rafa Marquez faced former world champ Victor Rabanales.
They fought 3 times but hardly anyone talks about the trilogy between Izzy Vasquez & Oscar Larios.
Edgar Sosa fought Ulises Solis & Omar Romero early in their careers.

Many don't know that Jeff Fenech fought Daniel Zaragoza in an all out war in 1986, a forgotten classic.
