Lyle.....can you ever make a thread that is not heavyweight related? You really are a glutton for punishment I guess.
Hey somebody has to follow the heavyweights. I think this is interesting because recently the only heavyweight we've heard about making a comeback is Shannon Briggs. Kirk Johnson was an ok heavyweight, if he was able to stay at a reasonable weight 240 maybe, he could cause for some interesting matchups.
I've always thought he was a good heavyweight. What alot of people don't know is he was the man who was supposed to fight Lennox and pulled out with an injury to his hand I believe it was. So Vitali was next in line for the shot at Lennox while Johnson sat on his ass ATE and waited for his hand to heal. Then bam he gets a shot at Vitali in a few weeks notice and did not get into proper shape. I think we could have seen a different picture if he were in shape to fight Vitali to be honest. Now I am not saying he would win but he certainly would have put up a better fight then a two beating.
I know nothing about Johnson other than Vitali beating on him like he had to chase him. What was Johnson good at? When I see him I think of Lamon Brewster. Fair comparison?

I wouldn't even worry about the heavyweight division quite yet. My boy, Albert is abotu to do a wreckingball of a job on Vitali, then his brother.

I think he was a much better boxer and counterpuncher. Lamon had a bit more raw power. I think Johnson would have soundly beat him back in the day. I mean if you look at it he was clearly out of shape against Vitali and 20 pounds above his fighting weight. He did have some notables on his resume in the early 21st century Maskaev,Savarese,Larry Donald,Al Cole a veteran journeyman and Russ Purrity. The B.S. fight with Ruiz where all he did was piss and moan to the ref and he bought it and stopped the fight. Damn shame I really liked Bubba.
