What the hell is a WBC Silver title? Can anyone enlighten me? I was checking out the joke that is John Duddy Vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and saw that this title is up for grabs...

I'm just going to assume this is one of those make believe interim titles that is produced just for the council to get more money out of the boxers...

Every single sanctioning body in boxing is necessary. How would we know who is the best without the silver champ. I think Khan is the WBO plastic champ, David Haye is the mellon champ, and Pacquiao is the WBA platinum-thunder-chief of the Milky Way champ... make that interim WBO-PTCMWC.

We know who the champs are. It's the guys with the American flags next to their names when you look them up on boxrec.com.

Wouldn't you rather they call it a silver title then an interim title? Interim titles don't make sense because they are often awarded while the real titlist is still active. At least if you have a silver champion then they are making no bones about him not being THE guy in the division.

Imagine if they had a fairly (we can only imagine lol) constructed 'silver' rating system with a mix of up and coming young fighters who aren't quite ready to contend for titles or maybe haven't earned it and a bunch of hard luck old veterans. That would be a good thing actually! So often prospects do jack shit until a sanctioning body hands them a title, what if they made them earn a silver title first and then defend it against quality opposition a certain number of times until they could get a title shot? I would be in no way opposed to this.

I agree, this is nonsense on a colossal scale. After the precious metals how about they go precious stones; the ruby belt, the sapphire belt, the diamond belt (has this already been done), etc. Then we could have the gold and ruby belt, or the silver-diamond belt. The possibilities are endless. I need to work for the WBC.
