    Default Barrera vs Jones 2

In an earlier thread on this site I read where quite a few people claimed that Barrera was robbed! R U kidding me? It was a close fight but after watching it again there is no way Marco was robbed, he just couldn't solve the riddle that was Junior Jones.....although he definitely made adjustments.

I'm a huge Barrera fan, but I agree. I don't think he did enough to deserve the decision. It was an improved technical performance from Barrera and as a consequence a closer fight, but he was a bit too cautious. Understandable though.

Robbery might be to strong of a word. But I had Barrera winning by 2 points.

I had the fight a draw but if I remember correctly Barrera could have won this fight but got a little passive at the end. He got a nice lead but let Jones back into the fight. I might have to hookup the old VCR and pull out the tape again!!!

I thought Barrera won. I watched it just a couple of weeks ago. It was no robbery - a fight that could have gone either way.

It's a fight where you can make a case for either fighter. I would have just liked a little more aggression on Barrera's part.

Been a long time but at time only 1 point win for Barrera. Originally had 1st round even but another rewatch gave to Marco. 2 pnt win.

I had Barrera winning four out of the first six rounds, but after that I think Jones readjusted and took most of the later rounds. I was just suprised at how vehement some people on this forum were about calling it a robbery. Kinda surprising considering that a lot of people up here seem to be well educated boxing fans

Only seen the fight once and I had it pretty even at the time.

I sometimes change my mind on a fight. I might watch it for the first time and see one fight, then six months later see another fight completely. I may have some kind of mental illness. But, no, I think a lot of people probably do that every now and then. Only for relatively close fights mind.

Jones seemed to have MAB number like Forrest with Shane, I had Jones a winner.

Who said this fight was a robbery ? i don't think i've ever seen anyone on this forum claim it was a robbery, i made a thread years ago. Asking was it a robbery. Because i hadn't seen it at that time, and pretty much most people believed it was a close Junior Jones win.

Again this was a pretty easy fight to score IMO, the only swing round was the 1st round. When both boxers were cautious and just getting warmed up, and hardly any punches were landed. I think you could call that an even round, but i thought Junior Jones edged it.

But other than that it was an easy fight to score, MAB won most of the early rounds. By fighting a smarter defensive fight, but when he needed to put his foot on the gas pedal in the later rounds, he didn't do it.

And Junior Jones worked his ass off in the later rounds, and won a very close decision. I mean as many people have said before, points wise it was pretty close. But if you watch the fight without scoring it, its clear to me who won if that makes sense.

Plus MAB had a point deducted which was a 10-8 round against him, he simply didn't do enough work when he needed to IMO, here's my old scorecard.

    1 Jones
    2 Barrera
    3 Barrera
    4 Barrera
    5 Barrera
    6 Barrera
    7 Jones
    8 Jones
    9 Jones 10-8
    10 Jones
    11 Jones
    12 Barrera

    114-113 Jones

IMO it was alot like Vernon Forrest vs Shane Mosley 2, a very close fight points wise. But without scoring it, and just watching the fight, it was clear who looked the better fighter on the night IMO. I mean some fans think it was a fluke, thats totally not the case.

I mean Junior Jones outpointed the great Orlando Canizalez, who is every bit as good as MAB was. Yes Orlando Canizales wasn't at his 100 percent best, but he was still very able. And Junior Jones won quite comfortably 8 rounds to 4.

Junior Jones's problem was that he was very hot and cold, but when he was at his best. He was one of the best Super Bantamweight's IMO.
