Default Ricky Burns v Andreas Evensen

After the victory against Roman Martinez, I had to eat a lot of my words about Ricky Burns, and I have to say that I was impressed by his performance and he came back well from that first round knockdown and deserved to win the title. I'm not going to say that I'm a massive fan still, I find him a little dirty for my taste, but I think he shocked many to take the world title, and deserves what looks like a reasonably easy defence for his first against Andreas Evensen.

Evensen's short record is scattered with guys with winning, but unimpressive records, and his sole defeat came against a guy who went on to fight for a world title, very hard to tell what he'll be like, but is coming in off four KO victories.

I think we have to expect Burns to come in looking for a parade, and will be looking for a good performance and big punches from the off. Although this can often lead to dull fights where a fighter gets more than he bargained for, I expect Burns to get a mid-round KO, and a bigger fight to come in the new year.

Burns is a giant against this fellow, and that knockdown, although it looked as though Evensen was more off-balance than anything, is a very good start. Burns doesn't seem to be making the most of his reach advantage to keep Evensen off though. Evensen finding gaps, and Burns countering. Good start for Burns.

I hope this is not signs to come with Burns, this guy looks like a midget lets not hope Burns run is not similar to Cazaghes early reign as WBO Champ, urns is a weak world champ this guy is no super featherweight.

Good as he is Ricky is not a 'World Class' fighter, i'm just hopin he gets a few defences, and enough money to be comfortable, before the inevitable happens.

Hopefully not, Burns is a big super feather going in against a guy who's always fought at featherweight makes the differences in records look even more like a mismatch. Evensen's not a complete walkover though, he is getting through with a few shots. Burns getting warned for the use of the forearm, which is the same he used when teeing up Michael Gomez for the KO.

Rhun you are spot on with Burns he is not usinghis advantages so far and making this guy fight his own fight.

There's no doubt in my mind really that Burns is winning, but if he was boxing his own fight I think he would look so much better, and really outclass Evensen. Evensen is trying to get close, but Burns' right hand looks like the killer shot if he can land a few flush.

Evensen has plenty of heart, but once again Burns is just landing better shots, even though he's not really getting to fight his own fight. Looks like my KO pick seems to be slipping away, but with a record like Evensen's it was always going to be difficult to tell.

Rumour has it that the tanned skin and short stature saw Evensen mistaken for an extra in the Glasgow Theatre's version of Charlie and the Chocolate factory...

I never noticed it until I saw the Gatti-Manfreddy fight again. But this Ricky Burns physically looks a lot like Angel Manfreddy, right down to the bad tattoos also.

Surely this has to end with the words...."and still...."

Burns was clearly the better fighter, and being much bigger must have helped too. Evensen was brave but not good enough 119-108, 119-108, 118-109.

Easy enough really, shame Burns couldn't get Evensen out of there, but a decent defence against a guy he should be beating, and hopefully a step up to better opposition in the new year.

It was a OK performance but the fight winning the title was much better.

Paul Appleby fight was good shame he lost.
