    Default A Little Too Late

    Marquez vs Morales

Marquez turned down a fight with Morales, by asking for too much back in 2004. This time if he doesn't get a fight with Pacquiao he is lined up to face Morales in April. This time the shoe is on the other foot and Marquez is in the drivers seat. I'm pretty sure Morales won't price himself out of a title shot given the chance at this late stage in his career.

There were a handfull of people who watched jones/b-hop and even worse harrison/haye. And with pac now leaning towards mosely there are definatly worse fights.

I agree with the title of the thread. This is not a fight I'm interested in. Frankly, I'd be dissappointed if this goes through.

If Marquez wants to be taken seriously and build up his case for a Pacquiao fight, this is going in the wrong direction.

When was the last time Eric Morales beat anyone of note?

One thing I don't understand is that Marquez was willing to go above 135 for a fight with Pacquiao, but not for anyone else? There are a bunch of better opponents out there for him.

I understand though that Marquez has been in a ton of wars and maybe he's reached the point in his career where he's taking only $ fights. Pacquiao, PBF, Morales.

imo, it doesn't matter what marquez does to entice pacquiao for a third fight because whatever he does, pacquiao will never give him that trilogy. i agree that a marquez/morales fight is pointless at this time. marquez will destroy him badly. i'd like to see marquez fight soto next and for the final fight of his career, go up to jr. welter and see if he can win that 4th world title, and win or lose, he should retire.

After thinking about it, I wouldn't mind seeing him fight Soto either, but I also think that he'll beat Soto pretty easily. I want him to go up to junior welterweight and try it out before he bows out too.

Default Morales: My Goal is Marquez

Boxing - Morales: My Goal is Marquez
    December 15

The three-time world champion Erik “Terrible” Morales isn’t worried by his new opponent Francisco Lorenzo. “I’ve trained hard for this date,” he said. “I acknowledge that Lorenzo is strong and has great experience, but my boxing career will make the difference that night.”

Boxing experts and fans expect that Lorenzo will be a great test for Morales, who is campaigning for a shot at a fourth world title.

Morales continued, “My goal right now is to win this fight, but my wish is to face my compatriot Juan Manuel Marquez. It has been said that when I was in a good place we couldn’t fight, but now he is in a good place and we can make a great fight. I know that Morales-Marquez would be a great fight for the Mexicans and the world of boxing. I feel the desire to fight and if the fight can be made, I can win!”

IMO, JMM should move up to 140 and challege the challenger that want to fave Pacman. If Bradley beats Alexander, a JMM vs Desert Storm. would be a good fight. And with a win against D.S. he could
    1. elminate one opponent for Pacman
    2. Gain a title
    3. Get comfortrable at a higher weight

For JMM this is really just killing time until he gets the fights he really wants, but for Morales it's a last chance at glory, and would be a massive upset if he does win. Although it would be interesting if Morales was competitive, you'd have to think that JMM would probably beat Morales in every category.

He's not thinking about killing time. He's using all the time he can get before it runs out to make money. Lining up Morales is a backup plan. If it weren't about the money for Marquez, we would have already seen PAC/JMM 3 and Marquez/Morales. There is no question that Morales will be competitive, the problem for Morales has been for how long will he be competitive. Morales can box on the outside and that is really JMM biggest nemesis.

This is a lot too late. JMM should fight someone decent and Morales should just retire.

Morales was past it after the 1st Pac fight. Since then he has looked like a shadow and couldnt pull the trigger vs Raheem. Marquez was in the shadows losing to Chris John and Norwood when Erik was at his best but now Marquez has emerged and the younger Morales and has fallen.

Its not a competative match now but Morales will fire back whenever he is caught and make a fight of it but I dont think in anyway it will be a reflection of what would have happend if Morales could still fight.
