    Default Vargas is back....

Yes Fernando Vargas has announced that he is back. No he will not be fighting MMA fighter Nick Diaz like some rumors have stated, but he will be fighting Henry Buchanan on April 16 at Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. This fight will be at 168 lbs. Vargas has moved from so-cal and moved to Las Vegas and has been training with Floyd Sr. He may win a few fights, but i don't see him having a lot left.

Vargas must need the cash. To be fair I think he can win a few easy fights, but no way is he competitive with the elite in that division. Doesn't Vargas have back issues anyway? He wasn't the same fighter even 3 years ago and had taken his share of beatings. Still, you can'tr begrudge a man wanting to put food on the table and judging by recent photos Vargas likes to eat a lot.

I don't want to see Vargas fight again. He was my favourite fighter when i was at school. I was devastated after he lost to tito and De la hoya

    lol

After the DLH loss i don't think we ever saw vargas enter the ring in tip top condition he always looked like he was carrying excess weight and he was never ripped again. This caused him problems with his speed and meant he took a lot of uneccessary punishment. He would not have lost to Mayorga in his prime.

If it's for money that's a shame because he must have earned a fortune to last a few lifetimes. Too many cheerleaders sucking him dry probably.

Vargas was a warrior and should stay retired.

I think it was too much too young with Vargas, went in with Tito far too early. All that money early in his career did him no favours he got accustomed to the good life and the hunger went away.

As Rockys trainer Mickey once said: "you was hard and you was nasty and you had this cast iron jaw but then the worst thing happened to you that could happen to any fighter, you got civilised"

    I love this quote.

He held his own against Mosely the 1st fight and an argument could be made he had the momentum until he started to look like Chunk from the goonies... It's boxing and that's the breaks.. I'm sure his pride and guts are still on fire after losing to Mayorga years back.

He certainly slurring, I guess promoting and Hollywood isn't treating him that good or like most he can't let it go

Damn this is surprising and unfortunate to hear.

I always liked Vargas. I wanted him to beat Delahoya so badly, but he just couldn't quite do it. Came close. But he lost down the stretch and got battered.

Anyone know who Henry Buchanan is ? Didn't he compete in that half ass crappy 168 lb tournament showbox had a few years ago ?

From what I remember he's decent and has some power.

Bad news. Last out he looked like he was in his third trimester. And his back is wrecked. He may get by a pedestrian who's content to be with a 'big name' like Buchanan...then again he may of actually wanted to take a softer touch, off tv and tucked away from a Vegas public.

He was a warrior mate, but i think that he sold himself as one to the limit, was part of his own undoing. Pride got in the way of being ring smart.

He was going to be on the Contender, but bailed for some reason. He got schooled by Andre Ward, I'd rate him as a good club fighter. Vargas should win if he isnt too crippled.

I'd heard this was to get his new promotional company off the ground. Use his name to sell seats, get interest in his other fighters and then he'll step aside. This is why I posted the Diaz rumour, because a fight like that would generate some interest in his shows with the whole Boxing vs. MMA angle. Can see it happening down the line now.

I read in the newspaper some time ago that Vargas's financial advisor had supposedly swindled him out of a sizable amount of money, and that his other investments- commercial real estate and apartment buildings- were losing value do the general state of economic affairs.
