Default Alfredo Angulo vs. Carlos Quintana in the works

Angulo vs Quintana 154-Pound Showdown is in The Works? - Boxing News

Really good 154lb fight. Be interesting to see if Quintana can do what Cintron did. Since Carlos is a 154 fighter now, I'd consider this 2 top contenders in the division in a fairly even fight. Warrants a WBC title much more than Alvarez-Hatton IMO.

a few years back i'd give the advantage to Quintana, he has the skillset to beat Angulo, just mentally he's unpredictable, i don't think he's going to deal with Angulo's pressure and power and get stopped midway through the fight

I felt the same with Cintron after watching him mentally crumble in a few fights, I felt he was a fighter that constantly doubted his ability to go 12 rounds when his opponent didn't budge at the weight of his punch. I was pleasently surprised to see him outbox Angulo for 12 rounds. Maybe Carlos will take a lesoon from that fight.

However, I should point out that I'm merely offering an alternative theory, and I agree Angulo stops him between the 6th & 8th Round.

I thought AA had visa problems?
Anyways, I'm not sure he will win this fight. Quintana is a vet. Angulo can apply pressure like P. Williams did and Quintana will pop Angulo whenever he's open. Then again, I do't think Williams have the KO power that Angulo have, and stopped Quintana early. A good crossroad fight.

Will love to see AA vs Alvarez. So I'm going with AA

in terms of technical ability Quintana is more well rounded and well better than Cintron, but Cintron has better power which makes up for it, if they were to fight i'd pick Quintana over Kermit, but against Angulo i'm not sure Carlos Quintana will be able to pull off the upset, i'd be rooting for him though

Two guys going in opposite directions if you ask me and I dont see that Quintana has the hurting shots or legs to keep and increasingly brutal inside fighter off of him over 12.....he'd have his moments early but I think Angulos punch selection is very underrated and he 'rolls' it nice when he gets you cornered.

Quintana doesn't have the punch that Cintron does to keep Angulo off. He starts well I reckon before getting stopped in the middle rounds like he did against Cotto & Berto

Quintana has the style to beat Angulo but he doesn't have the chin or stamina. Angulo wears him down by the 5th.

I really dislike Angulo, I want JC Jr or Alvarez to take him out or even Cotto (whom I think will do a lot better being more of a boxer/puncher than a slugger)

JC Jr wouldn't last more than 6 rounds, if that, i'd love an Alvarez/Angulo fight, and if Alvarez won i'd be ecstatic

Lyle & El Terrible, I'll take a combined sigbet with you two on Angulo in a Cotto v. Angulo fight. El Perro eats Cotto up and spits him out at this stage of Cotto's career. Problem is Bruce Trampler and Bob Arum are too good at what they do to let that fight happen because the risk ain't worth the reward.

For that matter, I'd take Angulo over Chavez Jr. and Alvarez too.

Don't get me wrong Angulo ain't the second coming, but he's a tough dude. To be clear, I'd favor Kirkland, Dzinziruk, Martinez, and Lara over Angulo.

i at least accept and IMO Cotto would school Angulo worse than Cintron did, as for the other part IMO Angulo beats Kirkland, he has the punch that Kirkland has always been open to, the straight right and a pretty damn good one at that, that's why i always felt Forrest would have whooped Kirkland but yea Dzinziruk and Martinez make Angulo look like a cab driver

Quintana certainly has the skills... but not the punch. Also, I'm not sure what his mentality is at this point. I saw him on TV the other day, and he sounds like he's getting ready to wrap up his career. With that kind of mentality, it would be an uphill climb against a brawler like Angulo.

Saw some comments in the thread about JCC Jr.'s chances. Again, I'd L-O-O-O-O-V-V-V-V-E-E-E-E nothing more than seeing JCC Jr. in against a live body.... so he can get his coddled ass kicked all the way back to his papa's house.

I always thought Angulo was a very limited boxer....decent enough "fighter" but Alvarez, JC Jr, and Cotto all beat him IMO.
