    Exclamation Amateur Experience before PRO?

    Hi guys

I want to now how much experience amateurs have before they go PRO..... i now a few that have near enough 7 years plus even 10-15 years, but cus of my age, i was wonderin is 5 years adequate? I'm pretty distant with my combos and my fitness level is at a pretty well good standard now, the only thing i lack is sparrin, only done this 4 times, I have me combos and i do look at fights on the internet to view there sparrin and or fights and combos, to perfect mine as such. Personally i just need sparrin experience and coach guidance now to get me in the right foot steps and to brush up on my combos with coachin aspect of it, but i'am pretty confident with sparrin only having 4 experiences mind.
What you reckon guys? thanks for your time,

If you haven't spared before, and you practise your combos from what you see on internet videos.. then I assume you don't have a coach and have not competed in amateur competition.. so you are not really an amateur fighter.. I would suggest you find a good coach, get lots of sparring and solid training and then see if you are ready for amateur competition.

Just given what you have said, you are definitely not ready to go pro!

Who have you sparred with? Actual competing amateurs or guys just like yourself? Are you registered with an amateur club?

Yes done sparrin but only 4 times, the coach said i have good technique, good movement round the ring etc...... I'm not registered yet but when i find a good boxing club i will then, i now i'm not an amateur boxer yet, but feel i have the right condition, and my boxin combos, on bag and opponents were pretty good, like i said it can get much better with coachin guidance and nurserin......

What I mean is what level of opponent have you sparred with? There's a vast difference between your average guy in a gym & actual amateur boxers.

Where is this coach? Is he a boxing tutor or a coach at an amateur boxing club? Are you in the UK? I might be able to give you some advice about clubs if you are.

Boxing tutors in a lot of the cases have very little idea what they are on about. Many have never had bouts or even sparred to a particularly good level. May not be true in this case, but I know many like this. Only sparring with amateurs at either your level or generally better than you will improve you & only under the guidance of an knowledgeable coach. Whereabouts do you live? I might be able to suggest an ABC that would help you improve quicker & let you know whether it's what you really want to do.

I don't know the area or any clubs there myself, but using the ABA club finder Club Finder - Amateur Boxing Association of England Limited I've found these.

I don't know which is the best or nearest to you, but I'd give them a call about going down so that they can give you advice & get a better look at where you are. Most importantly from your perspective, if they believe you're ready, you will get sparring. But, they are the people to go to if you want to take this seriously. I hope that helps & let us know how you get on

I now quite a few of you have rejections from doin sparrin with mates outside the boxin club... BUT experience is experience, bein in the sparrin situation and getting use to gettin hit and generally experiencin and getting comfortable with it. I was just sayin because in myself i'm ready to do sparrin now, i have high condidence about myself and wouldn't mind if the coach puts me in the deep end by puttin me in to do sparrin. Whats ur thoughts of this? Do coaches generally let you go into sparrin? because i have heard they only let you in if u are ready, but with the self believe i'am certainly ready

Experience is not experience. Your mates don't know what they are doing, so you aren't learning anything. If you are getting caught by friends who don't box, you are likely not ready to be sparring with amateurs. Go to an amateur club & let the coaches have a look at you. They have years of experience knowing what level you are at & how you can improve. Trust their opinion, they may put you in or they may not, but truthfully they will know what is best for you.
