I'll start with the HBO Card.
-It wasn't televised but Chris Arreola showed up at 236 again, good for him. The two accounts I've read describe him completely dominating tough guy Friday Ahuanya. Probably a good thing for Arreola to go ten rounds. I really do think he might be as viable an opponent for Wlad as there is right now. Now here's to hoping he stays busy. How about getting on the Vitali-Adamek undercard somehow?
-Rico Ramos was getting absolutely schooled for six and half rounds. Then two left hooks and it is over. In a different style it reminded me a lot of Manny P and Chachai Sasakul. Manny lost every minute of every round and looked really bad until Saskul slowed a little and WHAMO! Ramos showed plenty of nerve, but he's got a lot of work to do.
-I think the word is REALLY overused, but this fight deserves it. Robbery. I had it 7-5 Lara and that was giving Williams every round I had marked close. I cannot think of a sixth round he might have won. Much easier for me to justify a 9-3 fight than a draw. The HBO team scoring was way too wide in my view, but I thought they had the right guy winning. PW is courageous, fit, gutsy, determined, tough, dumb and poorly trained. Lara fought a tactically excellent fight I thought. He landed probably the 25 hardest punches of the night before you'd get to a PW shot. PW should find some orthodox fighters to fight. Lara should fight a guy like Angulo now.
The Showtime Card
-I mean to take nothing away from Carlos Molina. But you know what Kermit Cintron discovered on his year off? That he really didn't like fighting. He showed no determination or desire. Time to pack it in Kermit. Molina showed an abundance of both along with some pretty slick moves on the inside. Molina did what many fighters today fail to do. When he got close? He stayed close. He's a handful for any of the 147's except probably Manny and Floyd.
-What is there really to say about the Rios-Antillon gunfight? Rios has really improved I think. He was getting really good angles in rounds 2-3 and he had to suck it up because I think Antillon buzzed him twice. Great fight. JMM is the 135 champion, but I'm not sure there is a 135 who handles Rios right now.
