Hold v. Garcia and Demarco v. Linares were great fights. I was gutted for Linares. It must be horrible to dominate the whole fight and then to be knocked out really because of the horrible cuts. If he hadn't been cut, I see him winning that fight.

Linares took a brutal beating, the poor guy might have needed a blood transfusion after the fight, I don't ever recall anyone losing as much blood during a fight, it was gushing from his face. I wonder how many stitches he got in his face.

Fights like that one, end fighters careers, i'd be surprised if he made a successful comeback.

    Yeah definitely good stuff.
For every story told that divides us, I believe there are a thousand untold that unite us.

Linares was ahead 99-91 on one card and 98-92 on the other two. Indeed, it was unfortunate for the Venezuelan.

He should have boxed his way till he heard the bell of the 12th round, then surely his hands were the one that could have been raised for his second belt.

A side note to the ugly cut... it is highly possible Linares did not respond well to the age old remedy to cuts even by the most experienced cutmen in the ring, it is to apply pressure using clean gauze with epinephrine and then apply Vaseline. After that proved ineffective, Joe Chavez, the Linares team cutman, was out of sorts with any other alternative treatment. The oozing continued way too harmfully.

I do think that the gusher, caused by a legal hit tho', more than anything, was the main reason De Marco won over Linares. He was seriously staring at a points loss; lucky!

The linares fight had shades of margarito-cotto to it, linares was a bloody mess from that cut, I hope and think he will come back from this. Seeing him fight the way he did when he realized that he wouldn't make it to the end of the fight with that cut was just amazing...yet he probably didnt make half of what hop or dawson did, boxing is a cruel and unfair business...

Good post. I agree completely. Question: what should the cutman have done if the usual remedy didn't work?

If such remedy is inadequate in preventing further bleeding, other medications are known to have improved the ability to address this matter.

Legal, of course, as in boxing commissions and the like, should be the prevailing interest here for use of these meds "during the course of a fight".

With particular interest and respect to legality and bounded by at least three State boxing commissions, namely, California, Nevada and Texas, an expert opinion on this matter I have recently came across stated that three drugs, namely; Avitene, Thrombine, and Surgicel, are those that can address the issue when pressure, a clean gauze and epinephrine can not.

However, the same article stated that the difficulty with these additional drugs mentioned is in their procurement, for these drugs are only dispensed through prescriptions issued by licensed medical practitioners.

To the everyday Joe, there is no access to them unless, of course, where if they were scripts issued to him by these medical professionals.

In addition and lastly, the price for these medications as gathered, is to the layman overly prohibitive!

Linares should have won the fight, De Marco is very limited and Eric Morales must be licking his lips as he would beat him and become a 5 weight champion.

You think Morales has enough left to beat De Marco ?

I think thats asking a lot of Morales based of his last performance where he struggled a bit to beat an unknown tough kid.

Surely De Marco is a good deal better than that kid was.

I agree Morales showed he has still the skill to compete at the top level , De Marco was getting totally outclassed untill the cuts came to his rescue .

No one has mentioned the Luis Collazzo gettting beat by Freddy Hernandez. Truly an upset! Collazzo was always one fortunate break from hitting the big time.

could have easily gotten the nod over Berto and Hatton. Was doing great Vs Shane until he broke his hand and treated like a red headed stepchild from under exposure from his promoter.. Now This
