    Default My Last Fight

Hey everyone it's been a while since I posted, been training hard struggling to get fights after my last fight (first round ko). I managed to get a fight against someone unbeaten in 5 and usually boxes at 78kg (I box at 72) I came up to 74, he came down to 76. I lost 2nd round, Ref stopped it after he caught me with a big shot, my legs went, he got on top of me and after a standing 8, he done the same again and the ref stopped it. Anyway I have the video of the first round which I thought was close, I will post the 2nd round after I get some feedback as I don't want to be judged on that round as I was gone after the first punch haha. Hopefully will get a response off greynotsoold and AdamGB who have always given me good advice after my videos i've posted. Anyway i've had 6, won 3 lost 3 but feel i've improved quite a lot, look forward to hearing your responses

    PS sorry about my crowd!!

You need more punches in your arsenal. Most all of what you were throwing was 1-2. 1 1 1-2. etc. Always trying to set up your 2. And your jab for the most part was used as more of a rangefinder. Flicking it. This guy had some size on you and it appears power. Having only the 1 and 2 consistently going at him you are open to being countered a lot unless you can work more in there. This guy following you around the ring you need to make a stand somewhere...and I think it may best have been served going inside with flurries...combos, mixing in more body shots that finish up stairs, hooks at the end of your combos etc. You just need to throw more when you do let them go.

Thanks for the advice youngblood. Im used to being the taller fighter when at my weight so not used to fighting on the inside so its something i need to work on as theres always a chance ill fight a taller boxer. I 100% agree with making a stand. I was told to try and land and move out the way because of his power but i think i moved too much some times unecceserily which was just wasting energy. Will take your advice in. Thanks again.

You have improved tremendously; your footwork is much better and your punches sharper. You need to use your jab as a weapon more often, looking to land it as opposed to throwing it just because you jab before you throw the other punch. A lot of times you are throwing the left from too far away.
Two things that I think would help you a bunch...First, develope your right hand. A right hook behind the left hand is a necessity. Not only does it get you back on balance but that guy ducked right into it a couple times, had you been throwing it. To use your jab more effectively you'll have to adapt the way you move- circling to your right to step with the jab for example.
The second thing has to do with your left hand. A southpaw is a counterpuncher, that is just how it goes. You don't seem real comfortable with your right hand, and, while it can certainly be improved, having started late, it may never be entirely natural for you to use that hand. But you move well and can use that to set up punches. To be effective at that you need to really be able to just shoot that left hand, with no thought, without stepping with it, just shoot it.

Thanks as usual grey, really appreciate you taking time to look at my video and offer your advice. You're right im not comfortable with my right hand my coach keeps drilling it into me to roll my shoulder with my jab more so it is fully extended rather than just a range finder as it is now. Id love to have a strong jab that would stop someone and set my left hand up. Ive been working on my right hook, i think i mentioned it before but i dislocated my right shoulder two years ago and its never felt the same since so i doubt it ever will. But i will practice practice practice as i always do and i do stretch a lot to keep it supple. I will work on what you've pointed out fingers crossed my next video will be a win with those faults improved.
