Default Miguel Cotto to return in the fall

World Boxing News - Miguel Cotto set to return in the fall, makes promotional announcement

I wonder who Cotto will fight in his return, I love watching Cotto, I wonder how long he will fight on now for? I was gutted he lost to Trout, but I still think he beats most fighters at 154.

I feel Cotto shouldn't stick around much longer at all. With his style and frame, fighting above his natural weight etc he just won't be nearly the same animal and stands to get hurt against certain guys. I'm fairly certain Canelo would do a real number on him, hope we don't see that discussed again.

Agreed although when I read the thread title I immediately thought of the calender and Alvarez. That will probably be the fight and I have to say that the style of Alvarez is far more suited to Cotto's then the Austin Trouts of the world. Not sure how they justify the fight given recent history but its not as if this kind of thing has never been done before.

I wish he would retire. I know no fighter wants to go out on a loss like that but he has nothing more to prove or accomplish and will only take more damage serving as a 'name'. That comes from a place of respect and not dislike. The signs were there. He is far too good to serve as some padded toddlers stepping stone.

I gathered that bro but I saw the PB removal tag. Bugs me cause he's my dog and its my account. I have hundreds of pictures of him and his sister who do not even look like they are from the same litter.

I'd still like to see Cotto fight ginger boy. (Canelo) Trout fought the fight of his life and was much bigger than Miguel, Alvarez will be more his size. I like Cotto's chances if this fight happens.

    I like cotto...but
Cotto should retire. Im tired of seeing his face getting all beaten up and his family embarressed.

Cotto career changed after margocheato as he was robbed because of the fact that a cheat prospered.

Cotto has nothing left to prove and should just call it a day.

I would like to see Cotto fight 1 or 2 fights and retire. Maybe fight James Kirkland I believe Cotto would stop him and he can take on Cornelius Bundrage and retire with the IBF strapped on. I think Canelo vs Cotto would also be good but wouldn't like it to happen I like both fighters but Canelo would most likely stop Cotto now at this stage in his career.

Cotto is a class act but he is too small to be an effective light middleweight against the very best. Fighters like Terry Norris and Mike McCallum. Cotto can still win a title but he will not be the best at the weight.

Will Cotto live with that? I believe Saul would beat him. Cotto will still try and get back in the mix to fight Canelo.

Truth is, time is not on Cotto's side either. Cotto is obviously on the downside of his peak. He's not going to get any better. He's also got nothing to prove. He's taken on all comers and his list of opponents reads like a who's who of boxing. He'll be sorely missed.

Size I agree is not on his side either. I've always agreed and maintained that Cotto is too small for 154. His height and reach are more tailor-made for 147. He's given us some good matches at 154, but that is not his best weight.

Add to that the wars that Cotto has been through and yeah... I see maybe 1 to 2 more fights in his future, and then sadly I think he should consider retiring.

    He should retire IMO.

Unfortunately I think the first Margarito fight took a lot out of him and nobody is going to convince me Cheato didn't use illegal wraps in that fight.

Cotto is humble. He trains very hard and has to fighting at light middle. I do not think he could go down to welter either. He just has to get the boxing out of his system.
