Odd that someone other than Money would be dictating the terms of anything.
Does anyone really believe Showtime would dump him if he doesn't fight every 5 months?
He needs to fight every 5 months or he doesn't get paid.
He's contracted to 6 fights in 30 months, you do the maths.
You say tomato,
‘n I say …… it correctly.
lol I bet he has a "I hurt my hand" clause or he will call fans out the audience to fight. I know he will not fight anyone dangerous.
He is going to run out of recognizable names that he knows he can beat.
I think its stupid for Showtime to announce this a week before his fight and it puts Floyd on the defensive. Its probably the reason the rematch clause got out. That is Floyd telling everyone that he and he alone is ultimately in charge of his carreer. In addition the actual contract no doubt has a kazillion escape routes for Floyd to drag it out. He probably spent a million bucks on lawyers to be sure of it.
I think he will do the 6 fights in 30 months floyd is very smart and he knows hes getting old 30 hard months of work then hes retired or after the 30 months he could have 1 last fight to beat rockys record i think he will go out 50-0
If Floyd puts his mind into it then he can do it. He is in the twilight stages of his career and he knows he need to maximise the money. So he can do it if he does not suffer any major injuries.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
I don't think anybody outside the principals knows what's in the contract. I'm sure Floyd is covered every way. He may surprise us and fight five times in the time period -- maybe he was only fighting once a year before because there was only one guy a year who was a credible PPV opponent. If Showtime have given him a massive guarantee for each fight then it's their risk if the opponent doesn't sell.
And if Floyd has control over who he fights then he can pick a bunch of so so 140 pounders lieke Garcia and have five easy guaranteed paydays with Showtime taking all the risk. If Floyd does have control over the opponents this contract has the potential to make the Alex Rodriguez contract look like a smart piece of business by the Yankees.
Just wondering..... ARE there 6 fights for Floyd out there?
I mean, they would have to meet certain requirements.
Number one, obviously it has to be a big, recognizable name. Floyd isn't going to be fighting the Francesco Pianetas of the welterweight or SWW divisions. Second, I still insist that Floyd isn't going to put his "0" at risk at this late stage of his career. So he's going to pick opponents who will make good fights, but still be considered low risk. He also wants to make money... so someone like Khan, who might not be next in line based on merit alone, might still be attractive solely based on his UK fan base. So assuming Floyd does fight 6 opponents in short order, who are the more likely opponents? I'll throw some names out there:
Canelo - (the likelihood of this fight has increased, IMO)
Khan - (see above)
Danny Garcia - (hey... if Khan deserves it, why not Garcia?)
Matthysse - (a long shot... but why not?)
Pacquiao - (I know... the luster is long gone. But what if Pac wants to have one last hurrah?)
JMM - (the first one was SO lopsided, I hesitate to name him. But he did KTFO Pac, which raised his stock inmensely)
Some notable names I omitted:
Martinez - (Sorry... I just don't think the size difference is doable. But who knows. The $$$$ would be huge.)
Bradley - (One word: BORING)
Trout - (See Bradley)
Rios - (punk doesn't deserve a shot)
Canelo trout and Martinez aren't going to happen there to big floyd will fight the rest of his fights at 147
