Default Fighter of the year 2013- so far

I would choose Golovkin as of now - Ko's over Rosado , Ichida and Macklin.
Mikey Garcia is a runner up also - dominated Salido and ko'd JM Lopez.
Floyd may be there if he beats Alvarez convincingly; Alvarez likewise if he beats Mayweather
Garcia or Mathysse may both be contenders , considering who will win .
If Rigo has another big win this year , he could be considered
Adonis Stevenson also is a guy who had a big year. Kovalev also!!

anyone else who may be fighter of the year?

    right now- Golovkin for me

Barkers fight with Geale alone tops any other. GGG is just knocking people out and Ishida and Macklin are not the best, nor is Rosado tbh.

They could make a movie on the Barker fight.

Considering Macklin is better then Barker Id go with GGG. Barker scraping a split decision against the worst champion in the div doesnt warrant fighter of the year.

Everyone on the list above is ahead of him. I agree with GGG because hes had 3 fights and been impressive in all of them although opposition not that good. If Rigo gets another big fight in i think he deserves it.

with a win over Stevens, it'd be hard not to make a case for GGG

Mikey Garcia could make a case if he takes on a good name and wins impressively in his last fight of the year, maybe against someone like De Leon, John, or even Caballero at featherweight or move up and fight Martinez, Burgos, or Uchiyama

Hell even Canelo if he manages to legitimately beat Floyd can make a case, with his disputable win over (and decent performance) a game Trout and a clear win over Floyd he finally stepped it up against real opposition and not just hand picked opponents like the rest of his career, I just hope he continues to do so even if he loses and doesn't do a JCC Jr and go back to fighting Pretender rejects instead of real opponents

Rigo should be in the running just for the absolute dissection of Donaire.
If Lucas thrashes Garcia he's got to be on the list.
Floyd could also be in it if he puts on a clinic this weekend.
Leo Santa Cruz has a couple of nice marks on the year.

A good list and like you mention, a lot of this depends on the outcome of several big fights coming up.

Golovkin had a great breakout year, but in terms of accomplishment I don't know if I would give him the nod - which is not his fault because he's having a hard time getting the big dogs to fight him.

With a win over Garcia, I think Matthysse would be a great candidate. Completely destroying a world class guy like Peterson and then taking the title from undefeated Garcia would be tough to beat.

But I think ultimately Canelo will deserve it by default if he manages to upset Mayweather and be the first guy to really beat him.

It will be interesting, we have plenty of ifs, shoulds, maybes and depending on what happens. Fighter of the Year is not something I ever think about but this year I'm interested to see where Rigo winds up. He did a great job making Donaire look foolish.

GGG or Rigondeaux! But it will not matter because whoever wins between Money and Canelo will get the title for Fighter of 2013 in January.

Golovkin has been the most active but it may not necessarily mean he is the best this year. The winner of Floyd/Canelo will have a better case.

Well its true! Rigo beating Donaire in the manner he did is far more impressive. Id like to add Barker beating Geale is no more impressive then Geale beating Sturm. If someone proposed Geale as fighter of the year that year they would be ridiculed. But the Brits hold themself on a higher l;ever then the rest of us. Anyone catch that pricks speech at the G20 yoke. It actually makes the Americans look humble

Broner could be up there I suppose, although his opposition in Rees and Paulie wasn't great.

If Garcia wins, then I'd probably give it to him.

Matthyse would have a case as well if he beats Garcia in style. In fact all 4 guys fighting this weekend stand to win this if they impress.

I am not a fan of Floyd but I am a fan of his Ring IQ. If he takes Canelo are we obliged to give Floyd the nod? I fear that may be the case. If Lucas takes out Garcia I can see giving Lucas a big vote.

If GGG had some better competition although Macklin ain't no joke I could see GGG getting a number of votes. I get the info that fighters are ducking GGG from this forum. Hearing it from you guys I take it as fact but exactly who is dodging him.

I feel if Danny beats Lucas Danny should get it hands down. That's a big if but it was this year that Danny started touching the stars and he will really prove something slaying the beast they call Lucas. It would be nice to see also because Danny seems like a decent humble guy. Many here said he would make all kinds of excuses as he was shitting bricks out of fear. He seems to be taking it in stride and confidence. Sometimes Danny's disposition is hidden under his father's bullshit. It's fun having an idiot ranting at times but other times he unnecessarily steals the spot light.

I also think this year will be the foundation for the return of Manny. Hopefully he will make his win over Rios look good. He will probably have another fight or two and then he KTFO your boy Floyd.

At this point, if Matthysse knocks out Garcia, he's at the top of the list because he will have wins over two of the top 4 guys in his division at that point. Garcia can't claim the same because Judah isn't equivalent to Peterson in my eyes, and Garcia didn't dominate Judah.

If Rigo came back against another good competitor, he has to be at the top of the list. Out of everyone, he earned a win against the best competition. But, one win doesn't earn you the nod. He needs to get back in the ring.

I don't rate the Mayweather win over Guerrero as anything very special. A win over Canelo is better but it isn't ground breaking.

If Golovkin knocks Stevens out, he's by far the most active of the bunch and Stevens, Macklin and Rosado are good wins. I'm not sure that his activity over good, but not great fighters, trumps Matthysse's wins (if so) over Garcia and Peterson.

Kovalev's win over Cleverly was also solid, but he would need another win over a top ten guy to be in the picture with the other guys mentioned.

Bottom line is that there is too much left of the year to speculate.
