Default Punching the chin and punching the liver...

Is the way you punch to the body say the liver the same way you punch to the chin/brain?

I mean they are two very different targets the brain incases in a small light shallow but hard very "mobile" skull. The liver incased deep in a big soft "unmobile" body. The brain seems to shut down from shock or a rapid violent acceleration and deceleration. The liver seems to give you a tonne of pain if you kinda stab it with your fist and arm.

There seems to be boxers that are good body shot KO artists and they often make lousy head shot artist, and there are good head shot KO artists that make lousy body shot KO artists. The body shot KO artist tend to be strong (think ricky hatton) and the head shot KO artists tend to be fast (think pacman)

I was thinking teh fast guys can cause that shock to the brain the rapid acceleration and deceleration, and strong guys can better dig or stab their arm into the liver or break the ribs.

    But thats just my theory.

My question is is their an optimal way to punch to the head and an optimal way to punch to the body? Or should all punches be fired in the same way regardless of what target/body part you strike to?

Obviously tehre are different body shot techniques to head shot techniques but I mean should the contact time apon impact, snappiness of the punch, how much you drive through etc etc change depending on whether you go to the head or body?

    Damn QMGWTF,
Maybe you should post all you questions in just one thread, so the board isnt clogged up.

Well, the liver shot is done with the left hand and is almost impossible to train against it, a punch to the head you can train you neck muscles and spinal muscles.

Punches to the body and head require different angles.
    Body punches are usually hooks.

My advice would be to completely neglect punching to the body until you have mastered punching to the head.
It is also important to remember if you try to get a KO punch you will probably fail.
Contact time is not important, have you transferred the energy of the punch, (yes or no) the contact time should be minimal.

You'll see some guys that punch good to the body, but throw arm punches when they punch to the head. It is easier to get your hips ahead of your hands when you punch to the body.
The key to punching effectively, to the head or to the body, is punch placement. I use that term to include punching accuracy as well as timing, and creating the opening to land the punch. Guys punch "to the head" instead of to the left eye, for instance, or jabbing to the forehead to left his chin up so you can bounce your right hand off of it.
Same thing about going to the body- you can go 'to the body' for rounds and take punches because you are reaching and forcing and not really doing much. Or you can get under one jab and land an uppercut on the 'floating rib' and the guy's left side and hurt him for the rest of the fight. Or time his jab and go to the heart and suck him up for rounds.
