Hennessy & Channel 5's 8 Man British Light-Heavyweight Title Tournament

World Boxing News - Eight-man British title tournament begins March 15 on Channel 5

This will be like Prizefighter only with a bigger prize and spread over 4 events so they only fight once in 1 night. 2 Quarters, then 2 more Quarters, then 2 Semi's and finally the final. The fights will be 10x3 and 12x3 depending on the titles involved. The fighters are:

1. Bob Ajisafe
2. Dean Francis
3. Danny McIntosh
4. Travis Dickinson
5. Matty Clarkson
6. Leon Senior
7. Lee Duncan
8. Tony Hill

Quarters are drawn as follows:

March 15th
British Light-Heavyweight Championship 12x3
Bob Ajisafe vs. Dean Francis

Southern Area Light-Heavyweight Championship 10x3
Tony Hill vs. Leon Senior

Winners to meet in the Semi Finals.

March 22nd
English Light-Heavyweight Championship 10x3
Danny McIntosh vs. Travis Dickinson

English Light-Heavyweight Championship Elimanator 10x3
Matty Clarkson vs. Lee Duncan

Winners to meet in the Semi Finals.


What do you think? I think it's surprising Hennessy is pitting fighters against each other who you'd say are on the same level. Great idea to try and rejuvenate a crap division in the UK. The best thing is that Channel 5 will televise all fights so it means more live boxing. The Tournament is to be completed within 6 months of the start.
