Age forgives no one and injuries introduce you to age.

I just found out Martinez had tore his acl......this was all about a final pay check. Walking in with two bad knees, its like a sprinter racing with two bad hamstrings.....you know you cant win

The 12th round of the Chavez fight ruined Martinez. The knockdown fucked up his knee and he has never really recovered

Martinez was what <85% to start? and then gets rocked straight away. He started to get his wits back about the 6th round but his legs where still crap. Yea looks like it was about the paycheck same as his fight in Argentina.

Same here. I didn't know just how bad the injuries were and have only read more post fight. I knew Martinez had issues, but not to that extent and this is a man that relies on his legs to do everything including spending half the fight with his hands perched at his waist.

That first round and seeing how his legs were both upright and on the canvas made me feel a bit sick inside. It was obvious that this was a freak show. Credit to Martinez for even lasting as long as he did like that, but that was not even 30% of the fighter he was as much of what was good about him came from being unorthodox and athletic and it came from the legs. I'm surprised his team let him fight as they must have known and admitted as much post fight.

Sure, fighters need to be fighting for paychecks and pick their opponents, but I felt this was a bit shameless on the side of the Cotto camp. At the same time, Martinez must have known how bad his lower body was. It thus wasn't an elite fight and certainly no defining moment for Cotto. It is a tarnished fight, but Cotto did what he had to and looked sharp doing so, that is as far my credit can go.

    Cotto looked tremendous.

I picked Martinez to win, but like everyone I was concerned with his injuries.

It does feel like a paycheck fight n hoping to land a big one as Sergio had to have known going in that he was severely handicapped.

If I had picked Cotto then I woulda enjoyed this fight a lot more lol

    Mayorga is better than Martinez

Floyd could have got that middleweight title easy. Still can

It wasnt his knee that caught him the first time he got hurt. He got caught and hurt early and couldnt get back in the fight.

He got caught because he couldn't move out of the way fast enough.. he is old, and has ligament problems. Go figure?!!?

Cotto pounced on him... Cotto was 120%. Even if Martinez was 150% it was gonna be a tough fight for him vs. Cotto. Cotto came up and ready for the fight.

Jesus give Cotto some credit. You guys have been overplaying the knee since they called a sleeve a brace. The knee did not do him in, the first rd did. He said he never recovered from a punch in the first round and that the knee had nothing to do with it. I thought for sure that he'd fake a limp if he got into serious trouble but they threw in the towel instead.

Exactly, its like Cotto has shattered some perceptions that may also lead to Golovkin getting smashed by a smaller fighter so they want to explain it away with an injury.
