That would make 3 fights since getting the belt with 0 against a world championship level welterweight. Is this acceptable to you?

Hold the phone, are you saying Frankie Gavin isn't world level?
I joke but Jo Jo Dan was his mandatory so you can blame that on the IBF. Having seen what Carson Jones did to him by being relentless, Rios would be an interesting challenge and a test of Brook's chin, stamina and punching power. Frankie Gavin is a terrible opponent who does nothing for him and is just Hearn cashing in on a house fight.
If your plan is to fight regular then Rios is a bloody good opponent. Who else is there?
Floyd/Pac not an option.
Khan bottled it.
Thurman/Bradley not an option (have fights lined up)
Marquez don't know what he's doing.
Maidana?

It is an ok defence considering he fought Manny Pac and come from a good victory.
Brook may stop Rios and that would be even more impressive.
Do not let success go to your head and do not let failure get to your heart.
Yeah I think we're being too harsh on Brook. I've seen worse defenses by far. I think we're all anxious to have him face elite competition, though. What's the holdup with facing Khan again?
Damn shame.
It would seem to be a wonderful opportunity to have a fight with mega appeal for UK bragging rights.
Shouldn't they fight each other for the right to face Floyd?
I'd rather he was fighting someone better, I don't know why they're even talking about this until he beats Gavin. It's not all Brook or Hearn for that matter's fault, because most decent guys at this level are otherwise occupied.
This division needs a super 6 or 8 competition where there's no choice but to put the best fights on.
I see Khan's point. He's won 2 world titles and beaten some top guys. Brook has beaten Shawn Porter. Apart from that he hasn't proved himself yet while Khan has fought and beaten some top names and was at one point the top guy at 140. From his point of view he makes more money per fight than Brook, he is more mainstream than Brook and his win record is more reputable. He's chased Floyd for a long time and feels he should have his shot. Brook hasn't really earned it. If they fought, I think Brook takes him, and I think Khan knows there is a distinct possibility of that so why risk it when he is so close to his big money fight with Floyd? I think if Floyd and Manny retire, he will fight Brook.
To me Rios isn't even top 10 at WW. But if being busy against worthless opponents is good enough for you all have at it I suppose. I just wondered if it was good enough for you all. Froch won me over, I think Brook is more talented, but with weak opponents like they are lining up(and frankly his entire career is littered with mediocre opposition compared to his talent) I won't be getting on board with Brook. I'll stop asking that he step up as it seems his fans are happy with being an ABC title holder. If I was a fan I would be highly highly highly disappointed, but I'm not so why should I root for him to try for greatness?
You make some fair points, but bearing in mind a. The fight isn't done yet. And b. Who is available?
Who would you have matched him with.
I can't say it's a good matchup, but then again neither is Thurman v Collazo or Khan v Algieri.
The fact is that until Floyd and Pac are gone, this is what we have to put up with.
Name who he should be fighting in August then?

I guess I just can't see anyone as being worse. Rios was a good lightweight, not great. And his style and abilities favored him there where he was big. Now he doesn't have size so his lack of craft and concussive power means all he can do is make a guy work hard beating him up. I'm not sure who he should fight but he hasn't even fought Gavin yet so what is the rush? In a month many more guys will be available, far better guys than Rios. I just see Brook and Thurman as the future(along with TC and Spence) and both seem to be hurting their careers more than helping them.
If he will wait a month the list of possible opponents is huge. Right now, before he's even had this soft touch, there is no reason to line up another soft touch.
To clarify between the top 10 of 154, 147, and 140 only 6 guys are tied up. And if he waited only 1 month only Thurman and Herrera would be tied up. Only 2 more weeks and not one fighter from the top 10 of 154, 147, and 140 would be tied up. Guys not being available is only an excuse if you rush. If you actually want big fights you aren't busy, you are looking for big fights.
