Default Kirkland Laing's power tool reviews thread

Power tools. Like muscle cars, guns and eyebrow shaping, a collection of good power tools is the mark of a manly man. But which ones to buy? That's what this thread is here to provide the answer for. I'm going to review a bunch of tools that will be able to satisfy all your drilling, screwing, sawing and cutting needs.

I'm going to start with screwdriving. By far the best tool for men who do a lot of screwing is the impact driver, and today I'm going to review what just might be the best impact driver on the market, the new DeWalt DCF886D2.

The big change with the 886D2 over its older brother DCF885C2 is that it has a brushless motor which means no servicing but most importantly it requires less energy to produce more power. So the 886 gives you a whopping 57% increase in runtime over the 885 and it produces a whopping 165Nm of torque, or 1500 inch pounds for you American gays. That's a lot of screwing power! Add on a DeWalt 5 amp hour battery and you can screw all day without stopping.

    This review continues tomorrow..........

And what do you use these tools for Kirkland? Just fixing things in general or do you do a bit of woodworking or building in your spare time?

When times are tough in the private equity business I do a bit of moonlighting as a builder.

Anyway all manly men have a nice selection of power tools.

Well that's good that you have such an interesting hobby. What do you build in your spare time?

    LOL!

    Nice thread, Kirk.
Two thoughts right off the bat....

First, I got flashbacks of the now-banned Finito.

He used to (try to) do these threads, but was dead serious in a comical, pitiful way.
I think he was going overboard trying to overcompensate for his metro-sexuality by posting "manly" stuff.
He would post about cigars, power tools, muscle cars, Mafia groups..... and then give himself away by posting about popping collars and other metro stuff like that.

My second thought is I guess you're abandoning the Forum Gay of the Year race, and leaving it up to Miles all by himself.

Yep, I thought it was time for me to show my more manly side. I'm not only going to be reviewing power tools, I'm also going to be talking about how important it is to wear the correct clothing when you're using your power tools. The most important item is of course a hard hat.

    A hard hat

This protects your head while you're working. The most important thing to look for in a hard hat is how hard it is. If it isn't hard, it's no good to me at all.

You also need a tool belt.

    A tool belt

This is for keeping your manly hand tools in. If you're doing a lot of screwing you can also get a belt with just a big pouch at the front for you to put your screws in, but they can look like the things women wear to keep clothes pegs in when they're hanging out the washing so you have to make sure yours is made out of something manly like leather and it's even better if it has a logo from a tool company on, then there's no chance of it looking womanly.

Once you've got your hard hat and your tool belt on you should look nice and manly like this :

Slightly unorthodox eye protection there but excellent safety boots.

Here's a better photograph of the tool belt:

    Nice and manly.

More power tool reviews to come later.

I bet you'd love to see me in a hard hat and a tool belt and nothing else.

I'm surprised a discussion on proper tool length did not ensue from the tool belt section.

Now that's just schoolboy humour. This is a serious discussion about power tools and appropriate clothing.

This is a serious discussion about manly power tools. I'd never resort to making cheap jokes about your sexual predilections, sheepshagger.

Kirk spitting a wad of chewing tobacco on Dia's shoes at the end of that statement would totally complete the mental picture.
