Why on earth doesn't this man just campaign at light heavy?!!? That's where he is supposed to be. I mean, what in the world was he doing in the ring? I was not even sure if that was a middleweight fight or what?!?!

Chavez Jr doesn't impress at any weight these days, but he's fighting below light heavy to have an advantage. That's the way boxing operates, everyone is seeking an advantage with a better trainer, better nutrition, better conditioning, undetectable drugs, size advantage, bigger mouth, ring size, gloves and the location of the fight.
Chavez Jr's big problem is that he is not a great fighter at any weight. No discipline, not a great boxer, not a great puncher, and the guy is delusional.
Didn't you see? "I hurt my hand in the 3rd, I think its broken. If not I would have knocked him out"
Oh and "I can still make 168". I'm really beginning to think the punches have caught up with Jr. Seriously
He looked fucking huge against Reyes...he's lumbering around like a heavyweight...so slow and plodding. I almost feel sorry for him.
Very good question, and here's the answer:
Because he knows that fighting opponents his own size he won't stand a chance. His only chance ever is to outsize opponents by 30 pounds so his size advantage can offset his lack of dedication and boxing skills. See what happened against Fonfara... finally someone closer to Junior's own size, and Junior gets his assed kicked.
Honestly, it's like professional boxing is a totally different sport for Chavez Jr than any other fighter.
The guy he fought at the weekend weighed in at 153 for a fight a couple of years ago. He can't beat any half decent boxer who is his own weight or close to it, he can only beat blown up middleweights. Anybody even close to world level who is a natural 168 or bigger fighter is going to beat him.
The really strange part of this is why Showtime or anybody else are willing to pay him good money to fight on their network. Can't see that happening much longer.
I notice even Violent Demise isn't defending him anymore. Chavez hasn't got much shelf life left then.
