    Default Play del Carmen, Mexico

I am currently in Playa deal Carmen, Mexico, after having spent a week scuba diving in Cozumel.

I haven't seen any other nationality here on holiday other than Americans.

It seems they are either steroid fuelled bodybuilder types, or huge fat waddling blobs. Not much in between really.

It's quite wierd, can any of my US brethren on here enlighten me why this might be the case??

Ive been to that area 3 times , and the answer is simple - Cancun / Player Del Carmen is America's play ground.

I meant the body types, really.

Just had lunch and this enormous tub of lard on the table next to us had a starter, TWO main courses and dessert all to himself.

Many others have had about three pints of weak beer, and they are wankered already

From what I have been reading lately, it all seems to be about the diet. The West still largely adheres to the 'grains are good for you' theory when in reality the excess carbs will just rot your body and turn you into a mountain of goo. It is very difficult to avoid. There are more Western foods appearing here too and I check the labels carefully. Lo and behold people are getting heavier here too! If you look at the ingredients you will find grains in things that have nothing to do with grain. It must be pretty difficult to eat healthily when you are bombarded with junk like Americans are. I remember watching boxing on the computer and the ads between rounds were full of really tasty looking and very cheap items of pure bodily poison. Anyway that's my theory. Some work out a lot too and maybe they are the healthy ones, though they might turn out to be full of substances too. I don't know.

Ah...home of the extra cheese pizza...with cheese stuffed in the crust.

Home of a burger with a red bun with hot sauce...baked into the bun. jalapeno peppers, thick cut bacon, topped with a sauce called 'angry' sauce...
Thus giving the advertisement. .The Angriest Whopper!

Where side dishes like chicken Mcnuggets has about...oh, 20 ingredients.

20!... just to make chicken shaped like nuggets.....

I think that people that live near Whattaburger restaurants run a far greater risk of obesity than do other people.

That stuff is so tasty though and it seems to be so cheap out there too! A few bucks for instant gratification. It must be so tempting after a long shift to just call up for delivery or be watching the boxing with a beer and see one of those ads. It's kind of sinister like the way they market all those toys to kids at Christmas knowing the parents are all broke. It's an abusive cycle.

Im supposed to be going in June but don't really fancy it because if i wanna go to Mexico i want to experience Mexico not be stuck in a 5 star resort miles from anywhere that's full of dickheads from America.
My mate can get us over there with Virgin flights and 1 week all inclusive for about £300 which is cheap as chips but it just doesn't wet my beak at all.

Smash, you're right. It isn't the 'real' Mexico at all of course. Bearing in mind the drug wars raging at the moment, equally as brutally as ISIS, I'm not sure I want to see the real Mexico.

Seriously, if you do come to this vicinity, stay on Cozumel island which is great .... or Tulum which is laid back backpacker/scuba chic.

Playa del Carmen is a bit of an American Ibiza.

I just don't fancy it at all, i like eating out trying local food and going to the cool parts of a country when i go away not stuck on a resort in a routine or sat round a pool all day.
Probably end up banging someone out if they were being loud/annoying 24/7 and disturbing my holiday

Fancy a South American tour soon i think, Chile, Argentina etc.

I went a few years back with the Mrs smash, and we explored the old Mayan ruins, visited a lot of smaller towns along the coast, went to the mangroves for the wildlife. You can stay near to a lot of old temples/ruins and they are not on the coast or big resort like places. Food was great and the Mayan speaking peeps down south really friendly and welcoming. Great old churches and town squares, museums etc. Loads to do away from resorts if that is more your bag.
