Frank Warren has responded to Dennis Hobson's offer of a side bet on the outcome of Joe Calzaghe vs Clinton Woods - and suggested a wager of £500,000.

Hobson, who promotes the IBF light-heavyweight champion Woods, said he would be willing to put up a £100,000 side bet earlier this week on the outcome of a clash with WBO/IBF super-middleweight king Calzaghe.

And Warren hit back today in his News of the World column.

"At first I was going to report him to the NSPCC - The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Clinton - but I'll happily put my money where my mouth is," said Warren.

"Once we've got the purses sorted out, let's have a real man's bet - £500,000.

"I don't think there's much chance that Hobson will play ball though, and chucking Woods' name around is just a cheap publicity stunt to get his name in the papers.

"And is this same Hobson who before Calzaghe spanked Jeff Lacy predicted Joe would lose because he'd "stagnated"?

"I also remember him stating that Woods didn't need Calzaghe - funny how he's changed his tune now."

When is Clinton fighting next?? I think this is a good fight for Calzaghe against a come froward fighter like Woods, it would be similar to the Lacy fight, i hope this could be Joe's next fight and a good test and introduction to 175.

I hope this fight happens just so we get more of a bench mark to compare Joe to Roy Jones Jr. Personally I think Joe will have a tougher time with Clinton than Roy did.

I'd like to see this fight, I just don't think Hobson is serious. In the article where he challenges is Warren he is talking about Pay Per View, but he knows Warren and Joe are with ITV now and would be reluctant to move to Sky, as they should be, long live terrestrial boxing.

It depends on the money, Woods is older than Calzaghe isn't he?? He is no money maker like Calzaghe is now, if he is paid anywhere in the region of what Lacy got which i have heard was around $1.2 - $1.5 million he will take the fight no problem.

Even if somehow Woods got a crack at Tarver he is not a big enough name to get anywhere near that amount. I think this fight will happen.

calzaghe beats clinton for sure....wouldnt mind a wager myself if the fight ever takes place...
