Don't know that I would call it an "excuse", it's a stay busy fight until someone/anyone will fight him. Cotto won't mention his name and Lee is fighting Quillin. Who would be acceptable in your opinion? I just don't get the GGG hate from some on here...

I knew Taureno Johnson would have been up next when we considered the dance card for GGG....

Johnson got ROBBED in that Stevenson fight... Johnson has a good amateur background... almost blue chip amateur background.... is willing to fight.... mature... plus he is durable.

Also, it's not that Johnson wants to fight, but who else is out there that wants to fight GGG at MW:
Miguel Cotto-- doesn't want the fight now.
Sergio Martinez-- is in rehab and semi-retirement and odds are he does not fight again, let alone fight GGG.
Peter Quillin-- does not want the fight and is already engaged.
Daniel Jacobs-- has a fight coming up in April.
Hassan N’Dam-- has a fight coming up soon.
Jermain Taylor-- just a waste of time and may be side-lined again due to his own stupidity.
Marco Antonio Rubio-- was just destroyed by GGG.
Andy Lee-- would take the fight but already engaged.
Dmitry Chudinov-- just coming off of a loss to Eubank and really was not in play.
    Sam Soliman-- still in rehab.
Felix Sturm-- engaged with a fight already.
Daniel Geale-- was just destroyed by GGG.
Martin Murray-- was just destroyed by GGG.
Billy Joe Saunders-- has not made a whimper since eaking out a win vs. Eubank.
David Lemieux-- already engaged with another fight.
Jermall Charlo- engaged with another fight.
Eubank Jr.- has just recently fought Chudinov, and could have been lined up but he obviously wants a rematch with Saunders and the winner of Lee/Quillin.
Patrick Nielson- does not want to fight outside of Finland. And if you are going to fight Nielson, then you may as well fight Johnson.

Sergio Mora- could have taken this fight.
Willie Monroe Jr- could have taken this fight. But he and Johnson are almost identically ranked by the WBC and the WBA. So you could have had either, plus Johnson is signed with Roc Nation and has had more exposure and a tougher fight schedule than Monroe- Johnson having fought Stevens, most notably.

Billy Joe Saunders is the only one out there and let me throw in Mora also.

    I would destroy him.

Let GGG clean up the division and force the fight with Cotto.

If Cotto had any integrity he would fight GGG, but he won't because he knows he'll get destroyed. He picked on an old, crippled Martinez and has no interest in fighting at MW. He's hoping to lure Floyd into another fight, probably for his MW title.

The middleweight division is full of chumps because nobody is calling out GGG. He's one of the hottest guys in boxing right now, any prize fighter worth a shit should be falling over themselves to want to fight him, but because they are all scrubs GGG has to fight low ranked guys with nothing to lose. Instead of blaming GGG, how about we start putting pressure on these chumps to fight GGG?

That is harsh to say Cotto picked a crippled Sergio. At the time Cotto was the underdog and took the chance. Cotto deserves to get paid for taking the chance but he does then need to face GGG or relinquish the title.

Freddie Roach is one of the great opportunists in the sport. Manny was a huge underdog against DLH, but Roach wanted the fight because he had the inside info on DLH that he was washed up and, according to Roach "couldn't pull the trigger anymore", and was ripe for the picking. He saw the same thing in Sergio, a 40 year old champ with knee problems.

I give Cotto credit for being the one to dethrone him, but Sergio was a far cry from the guy who dominated MW for a few years. But in the end, Cotto saw some low lying fruit and grabbed it. He has no intentions of sticking at MW.

Strange days these. You have what really is a paper champion recognized by even the Ring as the best middleweight in the world even though he has not fought a middleweight since Martinez a year ago. Not only that, it appears that he actually has no intention on fighting another middleweight period. He then signs a reported 50 million dollar 3 fight deal with Espn.

Down the street stands the Kazak who barely gets into 7 figures for a fight. Not only has he destroyed every man he’s faced but he’s tried desperately for the last 3 years to unify with all the other “champions” to no avail. In the process of waiting on all these frauds he has blitzed the field. One of these pretenders refused 2 million to fight a guy with a pulse dropping his tin in the process to then find himself fighting for the same belt for less money with a man that can change the outcome with one shot.

Why didn’t Jacobs pick up the phone? He’s in a mandatory position for the real champion and could have easily got the fight. See, not even the guys mandatory challengers want to fight him. I hope Lee knocks Kid Ovaltine out on cable and 5 million people get to watch because at least Andy will sack up to the plate. Unfortunately his handlers won’t want it for at least a year or more. Next is Lemieux vs Ndam and lets hope David wins the other paper weight because he would also buck up and I think Oscar might agree also. Cotto is on the clock whether he signed a big deal or not and lets face it, he does not need the belt. They never signed him because he was one of the pretend title holders. The Kazak is his next fight after his optional so he will only get away with defending against a welter once.
There is no way he wiggles his way out of fighting the beast from the east after the way he stiffed the Wbc's native son. He will vacate the belt. This move also effectively kills any fight with Alvarez since Hbo has him under lock and key.

The OP just thinks very highly of GGG and thus wants to see him step up to the next weight class. He feels less highly of Ward because he doesn't call for him to step up to the next weight class, even though he has been at the top longer than GGG.
