    Default Matt beats Royce

    4:49 of the first.

Hughes controlled the fight, it got to the ground & Gracie had no answer for Matt's power.
On the ground, Hughes got Royce's left arm in an armbar that was borderline obscence in the angle, & Royce didn't even change the totally flat look on his face.
    He felt no pain.
At that point, I realized he would never tap, even if Hughes ripped his arms off.
The Gracie family pride is total.
His dad, who invented the Gracie fighting style, was at ringside, & the son would rather die than tap.
    I respect that.
After Hughes failed in getting him to tap on the armbar, Matt got on top of Royce Gracie (face down) Matt's hips & weight perfectly stationed to keep Gracie dominated.
Then he rained 17 haymakers on Royce's head & face until Big John McCarthy stopped the fight.

Lots of pride, lots of skill, lots of action in under 5 minutes.
    Great Fight!!!

I was peering out from behind my hands when I saw the angle of Royce's arm in the armbar... I was just waiting for it to suddenly snap! Any other man what have been done at that stage, incredible.

I think it bull s### that they stoped the match. Gracie would get pounded by guys bigger that huges and he would still win. Huges didnt prove anything, he didnt make Gracie tap or ko him. Ufc is a bunch of bull sh#t now and there trying to make the new ufc look better than the old one. If the match was like the old ones when they didnt have the ref stoping the fight then gracie would have won. Fu#k ufc Pride FC is where its at.

Gracie, while he was stuck in the armbar, had a calm face, but it looked to me like a strong minded warrior with tons of family pride thinking of 'a happy place' to block out the pain.
Royce Gracie will never ever tap IMO.
    No matter what.
    Ever.
I feel totally confident in that prediction.
Hughes could have broken his arms & legs OFF & he wouldn't have tapped.

...Well... err... of course he wouldn't be able to then, would he.

Its a well known fact that the gracies don't tap. Its a family thing. When helio was firsat beaten by the great judoka Kimura he got his arm broke due to kimura putting his arm in a..well...kimura. Renzo gracie got a nasty broken arm in Pride. I think Roger got his broke..

They don't tap. Royce would have been quite happy to get his arm busted rather than tap.

I feel he would. I don't think it was so much that Royce has deteriorated so much as a fighter as that the MMA game has undergone rule changes and elite fighters are completely evolved in their training. Royce's standup is borderline awful. Its only b/c he is so dangerous on the ground that he even gets in the ring with the likes of Hughes.
