    Default New boxer, experienced Fighter

    Hey all,

I finally found a decent forum for boxing! Well, i'm 15, turning 16 in September. I'm 5'7 1/2, about 135-140 pounds (last time I checked was back in Feb.)

I come from an interesting history of fighting. When I was in Germany, I did wrestling for 4 years in elementary school. I remember like it was yesterday, my first year of wrestling record was 19-0. The other 3 years were pretty good as well, but I lost matches those years. When I came back to the states, I did middle-school wrestling for 3 years.

Ever since I was 10, in addition to doing wrestling, I did Jeet Kune Do. 2 Years ago I also did 1 year of Krav Maga. Since last year, I started doing Shaolin Do Kung Fu.

So yeah, my whole life pretty much revolved around martial arts. Lately however, I found myself losing interest in Martial Arts, and had a bigger interest for boxing. I have always loved boxing, and loved watching Iron Mike winning by TKO's. But I never thought I would take it seriously soon. So last couple weeks i've been practicing on my own. I've read just about every article about boxing on the web. Now I need your help.

    1) I'm currently living in VA, right next to D.C. I've heard that there were some pretty old school boxing gyms there, but I might be falsely mislead. I'd like to know from anyone, if they can tell me which boxing place is the best in the area. I hate having to jump from one gym to another.
    2) I'm also half Korean, and was wondering what the expectations of asian-americans are in the boxing world.

I always modelled myself after Mike Tyson. Despite what he's been through, and the harsh comments he has made (ex. Eat your children), he was an exceptional boxer no doubt. My style is relied partly on the slipping, cornering the opponent, and keeping the pressure heavily.

    Thank ya.

The most importent thing for you is not to train yourself you will develope bad habbits.
I dont know gyms in your area but my advice to you is to find a gym that open everyday and start train atleast 5 times a week.
About asian boxers - I dont remember when an asian boxer was a world champ , maybe in the lighter divisions but no idea.

Theres been some good Korean Boxers, So youve been around gyms all your life you must have some idea what you are looking for. All I can say is go out and have a look around your area, youll know when you find what youre looking for, it will feel right. Look for fighters and trainers who are thinking what they are doing, and got a smile on their face.
