Default jermain taylor looking to ko ouma

No more mister nice guy. Middleweight champion Jermain Taylor tells the Arkansas Democrat Gazette that when he meets former 154-pound champion Kassim Ouma on December 9 at the Alltel Arena in Arkansas, he is going to have knockout on his mine. Forget boxing, forget touching gloves, Taylor is looking to give his hometown fans a big knockout.

"I’m going for a knockout,” Taylor said. “I think it’s time for a knockout. I know you’re not supposed to go into a fight looking for that, but for me and my fans, it’s really time for a knockout.”

The fight with Ouma became a reality after a December 2 rematch with Winky Wright fell apart, and it appears that the 60-40 split in favor of Taylor was not the deal breaker. Wright was to be paid $5 million to Taylor's $7.5, but it was the date of the fight that made Wright refuse to sign the contract. Lou DiBella tried to switch the date to January 20, because the pay-per-view going ahead on December 2 would have made it the fourth pay-per-view event in less than a month, plus it would been going head-to-head with a Showtime double-header featuring Miguel Cotto and Antonio Margarito.

“Who ever heard of a fighter who really wanted to fight pulling out over a date six weeks later ?” DiBella said. “We would be the fourth pay-per-view in a month. That date didn’t make any sense, and it would have been disrespectful to boxing fans to keep it on Dec. 2. The reality is Jermain really does want to fight that guy [Wright ],” DiBella said. “At this point there is no hard feelings [with Wright’s camp ]. Let’s move on. Truth is, we tried to make a deal, it didn’t happen.

But, the fight may still happen in the future. Taylor promises to go after Winky Wright as soon as he knocks Kassim Ouma out.

“I can’t wait to fight Winky again, and I will,” Taylor said. “After I knock out Ouma, I’ll get Winky. We’re putting the rematch off just for a minute. First I have to take care of my fans here.”

IMO it is a mis match....Ouma is not a legit 160lbr better suited for 154---IMO if ouma could get to 147 with his punch output he would be a monster.....
Ouma is not a KO puncher and with the size disadvantage it makes things worse...Taylor just wanted an easy fight against a name that can help make him look good due to the punch output.......I think Taylor is already making us wish ( Me at least) Hopkins was still Champ

I have never said that Taylor was not going to be the kingpin of 160-168lbs...maybe even 175...but he's going to have to get a lot better defensive game.

I like Taylor, but he buckles like a belt when pressured. Wright folded him up like a lawn chair right about the same time that Hopkins did...9th or 10th round.

Taylor will always be one of my favorites...I just don't really think that he brings it home in convincing fashion agianst the big boys.

Oh, come on. I love B-Hop--he's an all time great, no doubt, but he fought a lot of guys a lot worse than Ouma during his long reign at the top. And he didn't start that reign by fighting 3 fights in a row against top 3 p4p fighters. Taylor deserves a respite, and while I agree the size creates a mismatch, he could have found a much bigger mismatch against a natural MW had he wanted to.

I hope he can freakin KO little Ouma! Give me a break. What happend to him not wantin Ouma and taking the Wright rematch? Anyhoo I cannot remember too many smaller, chinny, featherfisted opponents that B-hop fought. Please name some. Also I like Ouma, he's great at 154, but he should not be fightin Taylor, who starves himself to make 160.

Taylor needs a break and I'm abig big Winky fan but I have seen quite a few articles stating that HE turned down $5million to fight Taylor, talk about greedy and he is not a PPV type fighter.

I don't think of Taylor that much. Already back to fighting 154 pounders because he can't knockout or knockdown Middleweights

You must've only been watching Taylor since his first fight with B-Hop. Taylor is definitely a big strong middleweight and has the knockouts and knockdowns(17 of 25 wins with plenty of additional knockdowns). Did you see what he did to the undefeated Daniel Edouard? Some so called experts picked the Haitian Sensation to beat Taylor. And nobody knockouts out B-Hop or Winky. Remember, the murderous punching Trinidad fought both of them and got schooled badly with no chance of hurting either guy. It is funny how some people only remember Taylor's fights with B-Hop and Winky and how all of a sudden going 2-0-1 against those two is somehow bad. Name one fighter from 175 on down who can knockout B-Hop? While you're stumped on that name one fighter from 168 on down who can knockout Winky? Winky, spars and plays with Jeff Lacy like he is playing with an amateur.
