Default Diego Corrales speaks out on Loss and Plans for the Future

    http://doghouseboxing.com/chee/chee_1008a06.htm

LAS VEGAS (Oct. 7, 2006) The World Boxing Council Lightweight title was only Joel Casamayor's to win on Saturday night; and win it he did.

Casamayor became a world champion for the third time by defeating Diego Corrales in a close and hard-fought split decision scored 116-111, 115-112 and 113-114.

In the co-feature, International Boxing Federation (IBF) Flyweight Champion Vic Darchinyan retained his title with an explosive sixth-round technical decision over Glenn Donaire.

    Diego Corrales Comments:

After the loss Corrales reflected on the fight and his plans with SHOWTIME's Jim Gray, saying: “I thought I won it. I will
go back and watch the tapes. If I lost it, I’ll say I lost it.

“You have seen the end of me at 135. I am going to go home and think about what I am going to do, if you’ve seen the end of me all together.”

When asked if that meant he was going to retire, Corrales responded, “I didn’t say I am going to retire, but I am going home to think about things.

I dont know if you saw the fight Gamo...I couldnt tell if Diego was shot or if he was trying to conserve his strength and stamina because he was weight drained...I was proclaiming before the whole weight debacle that Diego was gonna Smoke Casomayor but diego looked so sluggish and plodding around all nite..Maybe a fighting at a healthy 147 would do him good..

Nice sig bro,it looks cooooool!! I just saw the fight, very very close,I might have to watch it again,I think Cas won by 1 but the judge who had it by 5 is way off the mark in my opinion.

I totally agree,I also thought Diego was going to win and was dissappointed he did not. I think he was weight drained,he did not have the electricity about him, that aura of I don't know,he has an aura to me usually of confidence,of he will do whatever he needs to do to win but I did not feel that from this fight. He did not use the jab enough nor use enough power punches.

I think the clause that Diego had to make 147 was very smart and I think it had an adverse effect. I want to see him at 147 too, think about it,he hs the physical build and if he packs on muscle, and that power,it would be cool!

    That's my thoughts anyway!

Corrales needs to move up, he should try to make the rubber match with Castillo now. He can't anything against Castillo now seeing as he done the same thing. I'm sure everyone would wanna see that fight. But Corrales fits into a lot of big fights around 140 to 147!

Chico was so pale, his face was drained of color, and he was obviously very weak. I am pretty sure he would have beat him if he was healthier. Never the less give credit to el sepillo, he was in outstanding shape and realy came to fight.

To me corrales looked nothing like himself. He looked very weary and just lacked the usual energy he has.

the fact is Diego has to be feeling some effects of wear & tear on the brain and body & reflexes that boxings toll has taken on him...he should think about things ....sometimes health is more important than the glory of winning ...and also to some people the thought of even slight brain damage is Scary ,but its a fact of having a long boxing career that you will very likely get some type of perminent damage and you need to except it or stop fighting

Snore....it's pretty sad when the co-feature is the only good fighting of the night.
I don't like Casamayor at all (I don't like dirty fighters) but that fight was a disappointment. I hear people making excuses for Corrales, I tried to support him but the truth is he didn't fight for it and he didn't get it. He wasn't tired or ill, he was fighting for free, he had no title to defend, he just wasn't into it. Casamayor with his ridicules showboating against Diego who wasn't even trying just didn't measure up to a good fight, IMO, not with all the hype surrounding this match.
