Default More Junk food for hatton?

Ricky Hatton does not believe hs weight will be an issue ahead of his super-fight with Mexican Jose Luis Castillo.
Hatton has been dogged by question marks over his weight, with the IBF light-welterweight champion notorious for piling on the pounds between fights.

i dunno if we can blame the lifestyle on his drop in pace on saturday. his stamina was not in question in any of the numerous sparring sessions or sessions on the body bag. there could be more to it than simply living it up to much between fights, but yeah obvioulsy it's not doing him any favours.

It is the second time in a row that Hatton has failed to finish the championship rounds with any real authority. In both the Urango and Collazo fights he showed intitial promise which gradually ebbed away.

To be far to Hatton his output was decent against Urango. 775 punches at an avarage of about 64 per round. It is a decent output. Hardly earth shattering but pleasing enough. Perhaps its not just about stamina. Perhaps when the pressure begins to be turned up, the gameplan is beginning to go out the window somewhat and it becomes more about just trying to steal the rounds instead of asserting himself. Just make it through to the next fight no matter what, and dont take any silly risks.

Im not sure if it is Hattons stamina or simply the pressure of the situation and just trying to eke out the result...

    Good point

Also being roared on by 20,000 Mancs at home compared with 3,000 away is sure to make a difference coming down the stretch.

The fact that Hatton will be having more than one fight this year (3 if all goes well) is going to help him. He won't blow up as much in between fights and there is nothing wrong with that.

He was out for a while after the Collazo fight and got a little too big. I don't necessarily think he had stamina issues against Urango, it was more of a tactic to finish the job than anything.

However, fighting more often is gonna be very beneficial to Hatton and he'll be at 100%. Maussa and Collazo are very stylistically challenging, and Urango was fucking huge, who landed a few meaty body shots.

Castillo, whilst undoubtedly good and not tailor made for Hatton will be the first fighter Hatton has faced since Tszyu or Oliveira with a style that isn't going to make him look bad.

I'm expecting an Oliveira like demolishing, although Castillo will of shaken off ring-rust against Ngoudjo, Hatton will put in a boxing performance with controlled aggression for the full 12.

Urango should have been easy as hell for him to look good against, certainly he did for the first half.. If you think he'll do so much better against a guy who can actually fight in Castillo, I think you have false hopes.

Hatton got badly hurt by a body shot in the 5th round and it was still hurting by the 7/8th. Thats why he started to smoother! He didnt want to take another shot in the same place so nullified Urangos power shots.

He did what he did because Billy Graham told him to! He came back in the 6th and landed 29 power shots to Urangos 11. He was so hurting!!

His corner man told him to adapt and so he did. He seemed to be able to go on the offensive just fine until the advice of the corner...

It was a strange fight. Hatton fought well in my opinion. He edged close rounds and won early rounds convincingly. But there was no reason why he could not have kept winning rounds in some style. Im a Hatton fan but there were ulterior motives out there. Billy Graham seems to have an eye too focussed on retirement. Was that Duran always thought about? No, its about giving it your all and giving what you say you will give! Hatton gave less than expected and has been pounced. That is why we have doubters.

I think Graham is a shit trainer to start with, but you made a very good point about him having his eye on hatton retiring already.

And the Graham attitude is perhaps a bit wrong if you really are aiming for the stars!

I like Ricky's attitude, he's an amicable guy, but he's not a true professional. He reminds me of Shaq. He's a great asset, but the guy is unfocused and not willing to keep himself in shape all year long and it's almost annoying. I don't care what anyone believes, the fact of the matter is that losing 40 pounds in training camps is shortening Hatton's career. I feel like it's gotta be tough to curtail your lifestyle while you box, but if you're gonna be the best, then you have to sacrifice gorging and over drinking for the years when you are in your prime.

    Good points.

The thing i don't like about this interview is when he says he aint gonna get as big as last time because he has less of a rest. He should really take a look at the last 2 performances and say i aint gonna get as big because im gonna look at what im eating.

Obviously you cant expect any boxer to stick to strict diet all their career. The amount of pressure they put on their bodies to make weight is admirable more than any other physical sport imo. But theres a limit in this sport as to how far you can push it before it starts to effect you in the ring and i think hatton is crossing that line. If he really wants to break the US and win over all the unconvinced fans his gotta show alot more in and outta the ring imo
