Default Margarito agrees to Cotto fight!

World Welterweight Champion Antonio Margarito has agreed to take on two-time world champion Miguel Cotto on a Top Rank mega event June 9 at Madison Square Garden. Bob Arum of Top Rank and Team Margarito made the announcement today. "This is the biggest fight out there for me," Margarito said. "I am anxious to get into the ring against Cotto." Margarito, the 'Tijuana Tornado' with a record of 34-4 with 24 knockouts, is presently out with an injury in his right wrist. Margarito, managed by Sergio Diaz and Francisco Espinoza, will attend the Miguel Cotto vs. Oktay Urkal WBA world welterweight championship fight on March 3 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. If Cotto wins, a formal Cotto vs. Margarito announcement will be made that night.

Nice. I'm going to have to watch a little bit more on both but I like Cotto. He has made leaps and bounds since the Torres fight which I thought he looked average.

To be fair, Cotto did very well at 140 to say he was SO weight drained in so many fights, a lot of his weaknesses at 140 have disappeared at welterweight, which is a compliment, to fight so well at 140 with the weight drain shows just how talented he is.

Going on last performance by both guys, Cotto must be favourite, but I think it's much more even. Margarito will look a fool if he loses, that's why I think he's going to come out all guns blazing, he'll be up for this one after languishing for so long waiting for a big fight. If he can't get up for this one, he may as well hang up the gloves.

Cotto's WBA belt will be on the line provided he beats Oktay Urkal, but Margarito will most likely be stripped for not defending his WBO belt.

Should be one hell of a fight. I'd say Cotto has to be the starting favourite, he could well outbox Margarito, but I will be rooting for Tony.

If he can keep his punch output high for all 12 rounds it's possible he could pull this off.

I don't think either will be able to stop the other so it should be a 12 round war.

    EDIT

Thinking about it though, isn't Cotto like only 5 ft 7?

I'm guessing Margarito must be around 6 ft so it could be possible that he can keep Cotto at the end of his jab for much of the fight.

Actually I think Margarito could well be the favourite once they get in the ring. He's a big lad after all.

This fight has been signed and dated for a minute now...IMO all questions on both fighters will be answered....

Is Margarito as good as all the hype?....Has he just been injury prone the last few bouts and thays why his performences were a little off?......Can he dominate an elite fighter.....Will Cotto fall like Cintron and Lucian??

Is Cotto more than a power puncher?...Will he suffer a Jeff Lacey like fate when he gets in with a true veteran?...If Cotto can't get to Margaritos chin will he end up frustrated and confused like Cintron?....Will we find out the true quality of Cotto's jaw? he was hurt against Malignaggi only breifly but hurt by a few shots and Malignaggi is a powder puff puncher....

Yes Folks all our questions will be answered the only thing we can do now is discuss,, anticipate and wait!!!..........Lets just hope the fight happens and there are no last minute reasons for a pull out...OR WORSE!!!!!...They both lose their next matchup before the fight with each other

I dunno about dominating Cotto but I know he has a good chance at beating him, his stamina IMO is crazy.

Cotto is more than just a power puncher, and WAY more than just a brawler, watch the Abdulaev fight, he boxed beautifully off the ropes, and early in his career he was all counter puncher, he has a good jab and uses it most the times that he really has to, he's got a hell of a lot more in his arsenal than Lacy
