    Default religious fighters/ fighters with a country in their shoulders

    name them, and give example or stories;

    anyone remember when mab and hamed was going to fight, I'm not sure of this but mab was pissed about hamed bragging about there is only one god "allah" i think morales was pissed about hameds attics too. i know mab and em are catholics, was that what drove mab to beat hamed and light a fury to embarress hamed. thiers always been an extra level for religious fighters for an elite like mab, for a fighter like him to be driven and given an extra level his near damn unbeatable if so,specially when he feels his beliefs are getting diss.

    there are also fighters that has a whole country riding in their shoulders, again mab and em are examples. boxing has given us very exciting fights due to, two fighters representing thier countries in elite levels, example can be tito vs vargas...puerto rico vs mexico has always been exciting.

    list and name the fighters and countries they represent lets have some fun with this and look back or possible future fights.

    IMO the most famous one has to be Schmeling vs. Louis (Germany vs. USA) or more so Hitler vs. USA

    Yeah even as unfair as that is.

    Of course, Pacquiao is a superhero in the Philippines.

    A bit of a sad one though, was Sod Looknongyangtoy in his second fight with Ponce De Leon. HUGE deal in Thailand from what I understand. Arenas packed to watch it and everything. Broadcast everywhere, sent off as a hero. Then he got hit with a right hand he never saw. He got KO'd. That's bad. So a disappointed country and all that. But then the doctor's forced an oxygen mask on him when he was obviously OK and just disappointed. The oxygen is just a placebo anyways. If he doesn't want to have an oxygen mask on after the biggest loss of his career. If he wants to go out with some dignity then let him.

    This just about sums up how big the fight between Louis and Schmeling actually was. It was so much more then then USA vs Nazi Germany, Capitalism vs Fascism or any of that. It was really Humanity vs Nazi Germany. It's a shame that a good guy like Schmelling had to be the representitive for these terrible things but even he said that in hindsight it was a good thing he lost.

    It's an excerpt from a Humanities article from July 1, 2004 about the fight. You want the whole fight just tell me because it is a really nice piece.

    "...The fight was broadcast in four languages-English, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. In Germany, soldiers woke up at 3 a.m. to listen. Louis staggered Schmeling with twelve blows to the chin in less than a minute and a punch to the body that made him scream. "He screamed like a woman screams. His scream went all through the stadium," remembers Truman Gibson, Louis's attorney. Louis won in two minutes and four seconds. Fred Morton remembers himself as a young Jewish boy in Austria, hearing the fight with his father and cheering for Schmeling's defeat: "For the first time there was an inkling that Hitler might somehow be stopped."..."

    In November of 06 the radio broadcast was put in the National Recording Registry to be preserved forever. The registry said that 60 million American radios were tuned into the fight. That's at least half the population of America at the time, and that's just if each person had their own radio. So in all likelyhood, just about everybody in America heard the call for this one. I would have hated to have been alive for the war but I would give anything to watch that fight live.

    carlos 'famoso' hernandez was a national hero in el salvador ( i think thats where it was) and the president used to phone him up before every fight to wish him luck.
    and ali was an obvious one that springs to mind when you think of religeous fighters.
