Additionally I ask!
I wonder, Calzaghe is probably ranked as the top supermiddleweight on the all time rankings by most. If he were to lose to Kessler, would Kessler replace him on top?
opinions?

Kessler by knock out around the 7th to 8th round.
If an injury free Calzaghe hasn't slipped due to age then he wins a wide points decision.
However, if he's slowed any than the Dane does a Hatton on him (a la Kostya).

What do you mean ?? Hatton beat Kostya by swarming Kessler won't do that he will box and i find it out for any boxer to really outbox Calzaghe however you a right about the injury's which i am worried about aswell but if Calzaghe has no problems with his hands then he wins decision but problem is i actually think he will break his hands so im going to have to go with Kessler by decision based on that.Originally Posted by taansend
So you agree with me then
If Joe is slow/old then Kessler is going pressure him until he wins.
Please don't think I meant that Joe is going to retire at the end of the 11th round. It was a general analogy meaning that the younger fighter will overcome the older fighter if the older guy has slipped somewhat even though he was unbeaten and dominant in recent fights. Age can catch up with you.
Try not to be so literal, ICB....

No offense hear mate. Calzaghe is good, but best supermiddle ever? Probably top five but no way he is better than RJJ at supermiddle.Originally Posted by ghoster
This is difficult. While I am not saying that a prime Calzaghe would beat a prime Jones (although you never know), Joe C's record at SuperMiddle is much better than RJJ.
Jones only made 5 defenses, although he beat Toney for the title. Saying that, Toney was DRAINED and didn't beat another prime opponent for NINE years (yes he didn't beat anyone until Jirov).
Calzaghe has made loads of defences even though they have been against mainly pony opposition.
Jones is a better fighter but Calzaghe is a better Suppermiddleweight

Calzaghe has accomplished more than anyone in the history of the SMW div. He's the face of the div.
As for as the thread goes. I have to be honest & say that I will save my vote & opinion for a little later. You fellas across the pond will probably be better at disecting this one than me.
I have only seen Kessler fight Andrade (saw some highlights. but no other live fights from beginning to end). He's VERY impressive.
I have seen Calzaghe plenty enough to know what he's about. He's the real deal. Everyone talks about him slapping with his punches. And it does appear that he does do this alot. But he has to be the hardest damn slapper in the world. The way he slapped bruises, knots, & lacerations across 32 of 43 guys that he took out.
It's a great fight for boxing. I will ride the fence on this one for a while. I will break it these to down & do my best to compare the stylistic match up to give my prediction. But as for now, the jury is still out on this one for me.
Calzaghe to premeturely stop him. I think the outcome of this fight is gunna be extremely controversial.
I'm going Calzaghe, Just more exp all round. But Kessler will have a few moments I'm sure and be champ one day, But he will not beat Calzaghe. I would not be surprised if we have another Lacy like type fight happen.Originally Posted by ghoster
