The featherweight division

really kinda sucks.

I mean its not much of a division these days, especially considering its one of the original weight classes. And considering 122 and 130 are both so much better divisions.

Look at what's out there, Chris John, In Jin Chi, guys like Steven Luevano. You've got Rocky Juarez and Robert Guerrero fighting, neither are much to get excited about, but at least one will get a boost. Chris John is allright, but he didn't actually beat JMM, although he did pretty well. Still he's not by any means a star.

At least there is a bit of hope now, just downloaded Linares fight last night and he was very impressive. I've been watching him for a little while now and I say he's probably the best guy out there now.

I don't know, maybe some of the 122 pounders will move up. Rafa could probably handle it, Caballero could probably skip right to 154 so I'm sure he could handle it. Maybe even Vazquez.

Maybe I'm forgetting somebody but it doesn't seem like much of a division. At least there's Linares.

Agreed! Chris John needs to start working and trying to get a name, its not like he cant he just chooses to hide in his indonesian back yard and not want to fight the best which is a shame really because he has the potental to beat a lot of decent fighters.

He's probably a better fighter than I give him credit for but I just find it hard to be excited by him. He's not that entertaining of a fighter to me, that and he doesn't seem to be that interested in making really big fights. Why JMM went to Indonesia for that fight is totally and completely beyond me. He made something like 30,000 for it, I think, absolutely nothing compared to other fighters of his level.

But I guess John is the "man" in the division, which is a pretty good sign of why the division sucks. I hope Linares gets a chance to take over, although even he has been fighting a lot at 130, he might not be around 126 that long.

Yeah Marquez just now moved up and I believe he's rematching Vazquez. I don't see any reason to think he won't win that. So its doubtful he'll move up anytime real soon.

Harrison was at 126. I have no idea what he's doing now, I don't think he's in line for a fight any time soon. There's a reasonable chance that he's in jail, I'm not sure.

Definitely, although I'm not as excited as I was about their first fight. Pretty much cause I think Rafael's just a better fighter and I would be surprised if Vazquez was able to turn things around this time. First time there was a bit more suspense, although I guess anything can happen.

One recent change in the sport is that for the last decade, 126 and 154 were the two divisions that always had the star power and the great fights. Now they're two of the weaker divisions in the sport, and all the stars are at 130 and 147.

I agree the division is not as exciting as when Morales, Barrera, Pacquiao & Marquez graced it but with Linares, Luevano, Guerrero, Chi & John still at 126 there are a number of good fights to be made!

If he gets to the USA he will get a bigger name and he should be fighting people like linares to push himself as the best, not the guy who is impossible to beat in his back yard. someone needs to offer him a lot of money to fight some big names over in the USA.

I always liked Chi but I'm not sure what he really has left. If he was in the prime of his career it would be him, John, and Linares that would be at the top of my list, but like I said I'm not really sure what he has left.

I would love to see Linares kick the shit out of Guerrero, I highly dislike Guerrero and the dirty shit he gets away with.

I don't really have a good idea about Luevano. I've only seen him once and he didn't really seem special to me, just pretty solid. Didn't see the Cook fight.

Juarez can punch and he's pretty solid but I think he's an underachiever. He just sits around and waits too much, needs to just throw more punches. A little bit like Brian Viloria in that sense IMO, but not quite as bad.

I do hope he beats Guerrero.

IMO this should test his reserve. It's high time he won a world title. I have high hopes for him and fully expect him to win. If he doesn't, then I'll admit I was wrong about him.

Can't believe I forgot to mention Linares in my list. That kid was impressive against Larios.

I agree Oumafan,I'm not too hot on this division either. I hope Linares cleans it out,he certainly has the skill too although I don't know how much Chi has left,John already turned down a Linares fight twice,Guerrero is not that highly rated imo and Juarez is one of the most limited fighters I have seen(I was so glad Soto beat the heck out of him!)

Also,seeing as Linares is only21,he is probably still going to fill out more and will probably move up sooner or later making the division that much more less exciting
