Well the 18 year old US player is moving to Portugal to play for Benfica. I wonder what you think of this? Adu also said his performance with the U-20 team and in MLS will win him a spot of the US National team and I hope it does.

People from United thought he was very hyped and over rated when he trained with us last year, Benfica not a bad starting club at all, good luck to him.Originally Posted by Lyle

Good, I'm happy Man U doesn't think much of him....I would hate for him to be on that squad! But if another team, like Liverpool for instance got ahold of him I would be extremely pleased.
I have no doubt Freddy Adu is a great player....he just turned 18!
......and mark my words, Jozy Altidore won't be far behind Adu. Jozy is 17 years old! Jozy can boot it hard.....harder than Riise!!!!
Great for Adu and great for Benfica. He'll get to play plenty in a good league, plus get some expose to UEFA-level games. With him at Benifica, Beasley with Rangers now and a bunch of other players on mid-level ELP teams, the USA nationals should be much better prepared next world cup.
I think its a good situation for him but I can't say I'm totally confident he'll work out. He seems to really only play his best when he's the clear leader and the playmaker and not everybody's gonna have him be that.
Altidore is the man, the U.S. finally has a real striker, well at least a prospect.
And I'm glad Beasley got out of Man City.
I think people have expected a ton out of Freddy and he's achieved a lot but not to a level that the US figured he would....they figured he'd be like Michael Jordan right away he needs to be patient and he'll develop into a great player.
Kenny Cooper will be good too, he's a big boy and he's a striker.
But here's what Jozy can do....this is his first goal in MLS

Can't really judge him till we see him a Champions league game against a Prem side or in the Prem itself.
I definately don't think he's better than Theo Walcott (who must surely start for Arsenal this season)
Lets be honest Smash hes 18, if he was a Walcott or Rooney i doubt he would be at Benfica.Originally Posted by Smashup

You can tell when they're 15 if they'll cut the mustard in the Prem and they deemed him not good enough.
Good start though Benfica![]()
Danny Szetela is probably gonna go to AS Roma at the end of the year.
I don't know that much about him, he's a midfielder that was on the U-21 team but he must be pretty good, not too many of our guys play for teams like Roma.
Benny Feilhaber's going from Germany to Derby County. Not too sure about that to be honest, aren't they as likely as any to get relegated. I guess if he does well individually it wouldn't really matter. I would have thought he could get on a bigger club than that, he has done well with the national team.
We (Spurs) signed Boateng recently who is supposedly the next big German Player
Hope so.
Oh the 'Ghetto' Kid. Bet he gets a few lumps n bumps this seasonOriginally Posted by Smashup

Of course Adu's been overrated, he was way too hyped up.
He never really had a good situation in the MLS, that and the MLS is underrated by most people but that's beside the point.
But still, even though I was down on him too he was as good as anybody at the U-21. That doesn't assure success by any means but he was the best player on the field versus Brazil IMO hands down, he's not a bum. He just was overrated and now well start to see if he can really make it.
