Was Castillo finished when he fought Hatton ???

I've noticed people are talking about Hatton v Castillo and reading Malignaggi's comments and don't give Ricky credit for it by saying Castillo was awful, finished etc however I don't believe this is the case. Of course Castillo was past his prime but weren't Oscar when he fought PBF and weren't Wright when he fought Hopkins etc but nobody slates PBF or Bernard, but like Oscar and Winky, Castillo had something left to give and if anybody watched the fight most people including myself gave the 3RD round clearly to Castillo. Castillo was also coming off 3 victories and his previous from a light-welter bout against silky undefeated Herman Ngoudjo . JLC also had never been KO'd b4 and the way Ricky done it you have to give him credit. Also hu else was there out there for Ricky to fight at the time.

I personally feel JLC was past his prime but by no means out of it and statements that he looked horrible etc are false he still had something to offer which means that win should go down as a great victory for RH.

CC there lefty, i reckon Castillo isnt past it just yet and still has the capabilities to clean up the light welters in Hatton's abscence.
If Malinaggi reckons Castillo is so washed up why doesn't he fight him?

Hatton deserves the credit for stopping him the way he did in 4 rnds. Nobody had ever koed Castillo before.

The thing is Castillo, though trying to fight back as a warrior, looked really slow and sluggish. It only took a minute of the fight and I already knew he wasn't gonna win the fight. I don't know if he was shot or if it was the weight but there was just no way he was going to win. Still the fact that he was stopped early is a credit to Hatton.

If im honest i felt Castillo was pritty much there for the taking. He had weight trouble in the two Corrales fights and he looked awful in the fight before Hatton. Castillo looked very slow and he looked like very uncomfortable at 140 and he seemed fleshy. I'd say the Castillo that fought Hatton was not even close to the one that fought Mayweather.

He wasn't in his prime but since Hatton did what no one else did and laid out Castillo, all of a sudden he's an old man. Whether Ricky could have done what he did to Castillo 3-5 years ago, who knows Is all I know is he did what he was supposed to do and did it convincingly. My take is that alot of people thought Hatton would win in a decision at best; then they could make fun of him and say it took him all night to beat up an old man, hahaha. Most friends of mine and alot on the boards said Castillo was going to "expose that bum" and k.o. Hatton, which obviously didn't happen either, so the only thing left to say is Castillo was a geriatric waiting to get put in the retirement home. I'll tell you who was shot, and that was Gatti when Floyd fought him, and no one says anything about that. Of course, Gatti would have gotten holes blown through him no matter when he fought Floyd, so maybe it doesn't matter. I bet Rick trained his ass off for Castillo and really think he was as surprised as everyone else he floored Castillo. Funny how after so many fights, all of a sudden Castillo is washed up when Ricky k.o.'s him. He could have had 80 fights and been a warrior, but if Ricky floored him in fight 81, well, Castillo must be a geezer, right

Yeah, he beat a legend in Daamgaard Then managed to get k.o.'d by Baldomir, lol, who doesn't k.o. anyone. Seriously though, Castillo did look slower and as I said he wasn't in his prime, but I don't think he's shot. You may be right though; but at least Hatton didn't take all night to beat an old man. I'd like to see someone else put Castillo on his ass.

Castillo still could have been dangerous given adequate opportunity, in the Hatton fight we simply didn get a chance to see what he had left as when he began to warm up in the 3rd he was'nt allowed to do any damage and was simply sparked in the 4th.

Alot of people fought Castillo was going to win but as soon as Hatton beat him they said he was shot, you have to give Hatton some credit for the body shot that ko'ed Castillo that was a cripler shot.

I agree on both counts. Yes, Castillo WAS a bit past his sell-by date (actually, I think the spoiled stench was pretty noticeable), BUT....... at the same time, I thought Hatton's dispatching of Castillo and that body shot were very impressive indeed. Castillo's not given to quitting on one knee.

I've watched Castillo fight since very early in his career- pretty early, anyway, say 1993 or 1994- and he has been shot for nearly 4 years

In short.
Yes, I do believe he was past it and if you look at my posts prior to the fight you can see where I said he was and people right away jumped all over me for saying that. People said I was begining to put excuses for JLC. I was just pointing out something I felt.
I mean the guy's been struggling with weight for what 2 going on 3 yrs. now he just can't find a division that suits him and had been fighting like shit since his fight with Reyes. I just didn't see anything from him that would lead me to think he had a chance in fact everything I saw led me to believe he was past it.
