    Default Trainer- Punches in Bunches

Well it's my first post in here so first i should let you know about me im an 18 year old looking to have my first fight within a few months, i've been training for about 7. But my trainer insists on the punches in bunches style, where it's pretty much rush in throw plenty of punches then retreat. This however doesn't seem natural at all for me and i much prefer slipping and fighting on the inside. The problem is everytime i practise bobbing and weaving at the gym he tells me to stop instead focus on parrying or pushing backwards to avoid the jab/ oncoming punches (he doesn't seem to teach any head movement). I'm not sure what i should do, keep practising my bob/weave at home on my heavy bag and try to do it in sparring or just listen to him after all he's been boxing for a lot longer than i have?

    Thanks

The style he's teaching you seems to be the typical usa amateur style, with the hands up a la Winky Wright...Another thing i find unusual is the length of time between ur fights and how long it is til ur first fight.

But anyway, he's trying to teach you a base style, use it and develop on it as you learn from fight expierience.

Why is that below average for a first fight?

No not at all, thats exactly the standard and probably the right thing to do.

But in my Club we were fighting within a month and we have a bout/exhibition match/tournament maybe once a week!!!

you need to trust your instructor mate. no trust, no learn . if your going into competition. you need to throw as many scoring punches as possible. you have 3 rounds to make a solid impression.

you not going to do that throwing one punch at a time on your heals . Good chance the instructor knows what he is doing.

Funny thing out here in the land of Oz; the amature judges will score any straight left or a landing jab above any other punch known .
Dont even bother with body shots out here in the amatures unless you got the power to slow up someone or drop their guard.

thanks for your replies, but yeah i am in aus and will have to work on my jab if that is the main scoring punch. I was just a bit worried that he hadn't taught me any head movement yet, but i will just trust him after all he is the trainer
