Joe Calzaghe - Slightly Overated?

I thought I would get this of my chest.

Following his win over Kessler, I have been reading quite a bit of stuff on how great Calzaghe is, all-time great etc etc.

I have to disagree, yes I think Calzaghe is a very, very good champion, I mean credit to anyone who can defend the title as many times as he has. But Boxing is one of those Sports were you have to do it in the states aswell.

I know alot of people will disagree, and let me remind you I'm not dissing Calzaghe I respect what he's done, but they guy has not come and fought outside of his backyard. He has fought in Denmark and Germany a couple of times but that's it.

He has never fought in the US and especially Las Vegas or the Garden.

This is is important if you want to considered a Great champion.

Oh, was there ever an opportuinty that he could have fought Roy Jones Jnr, when Jones was in his prime?

Whilst I can see arguments for why he he is not yet an all time great(I think he's close!),to say he is over rated for the simple fact that he has not fought in the States is a silly reason,no offence. And to say he has not fought out of his backyard and then say he's fought in Germany and Denmark is a contradiction.

That is not a barometer to define whether someone is a legend in the sport or not,whether they have fought in the states. Also,IF a B Hop fight comes off,it most likely will be in the states so that will adress the issue,let's hope it happens.

so why does someone have to fight in the us to make them great? because the americans are the ones who decide who is great or who isn't?

Sick and tired of hearing this same shit over and over about how everyone has to fight in america because of this and that, lets get one thign str8 the ONLY reason any fighter fights there is for money and nothing else.

Take the big money away from america, put it in any other country and you watch how dead an empty that place comes for boxing, winning in MSG or LV or any other plce in the states in this day an age is in no way any harder full stop, you might get robbed, but that can happen anywhere.

Tbh i think people in the states are more pissed off about calzaghe not fighitng there because they know deep down, he isn't scared of going there, just the fact he couldn't really give a fly **** what people in america think of him, and thats what pisses people off most.

Rob you answered your own question so by ranting and raving you make yourself look bad....America is where all the money is,,,the big fights,,,the best comp....that can not be denied and if you do deny it you will look like the biggest heel to ever grace these boards....and if all the big money and top fighters were in another country then that country would be the place to be...the top thai fighters don't go to Australia to become the best do they?...

as for the back yard really where had joe fought other then the UK? one or two trips outside is all....if you look on boxrec he has 5 different venues on his resume....thats not his back yard?.......give it a break....

Just because you worship the guy does not mean the world has to...and again if you deny that you act like this everytime Calzaghes name comes up and there is negative comments we can go back into your posting history and start pasting your post.....hell Rob you manage to bring Calzaghes name into 75% of your post one way or another...the topic can be mini flyweights and you will say "Well if Joe Calzaghe was a mini flyweight he could..."

You go to each individual sport's mecca. For hockey it's canada,russia, finland or sweden. For baseball it's the us, japan, dominican republic or cuba. for nfl it's the us. Every sport has its history.

What has Carl Frochdone to deserve a shot? He has not beaten a top 30 ranked fighter.
