Default Mayweather has earned my repect

I have always been a fan of "Pretty Boy" Floyd "Money" Mayweather in the ring. But the way he acts outside of the ring made me want to see him get knocked the f*ck out. It was a juxtaposition of feelings towards him. The pinnacle of respect while at the same time the bottom of the barrell in personality.

This weekend made me completely look at him differently. First off, at the conclusion of the fight and at the press conference he had nothing but great things to say about Ricky Hatton and the British fans. He admitted at times he was in trouble and that Hatton's pressure was something he had never seen before. He also admitted that his past couple fights have been "duds" and finally showed everyone and the skeptics that he can still mix it up in the ring. Mayweather could've easily said "i told you so," but he didn't. He told it how it was.

A little plus side to Mayweather that I never noticed before. I was watching Pacquiao vs Morales II today and Floyd was sitting in the front row. Considering Floyd and Manny are each other's competition pound-for-pound Floyd was actually jumping off his seat everytime Manny landed a significant punch. EVEN yelling at Pacquiao and pointing out everytime Morales was in trouble. When Morales got knocked down the first time, you can see Floyd yelling at Pacquiao while he was still in the neutral corner "GET ON HIM! GET ON HIM!" (I wonder if Manny noticed this). As soon as the fight was stopped, Mayweather jumped on his seat, raised his hands, and cheered. If anyone has the chance to watch this fight again, notice Mayweather, cause you can tell he is a true fan of the sport and gets excited watching boxing like the rest of us.

Besides your respect, he earned about $10 million also. I'd say he cleaned up.

Floyd is all about being the showman and he knows how to sell tickets whether its positive or negatively... You miss alot of Floyds personality because he really takes his role as the Villian seriously.

I think if you see Floyd vs Cotto I can almost guarantee that Floyd will play the nice guy since Cotto knows very little English and comes across Robotic where as Floyd is charismatic and articulate. I look forward to see if he can play a Delahoya type roll now that he is accomplished gates that only the likes of Delahoya, Tyson and Holyfield have. There is no other fight that can be made in the next 3-4 years that will ever get a fraction of the Fanfare that Both Hatton and Delahoya had. You will see a good side of Floyd that we have never scene while the "BOXING" camera is on

He always speaks highly about his opponent after the fight thats nothing new.

He admitted at times he was in trouble and that Hatton's pressure was something he had never seen before. Oh he has Chavez's pressure was the same as Hatton's and he dealt with that fine just like he dealt with Hatton's fine, i told people it would be similar to the Chavez fight.

So i don't really see why he hasn't got your respect up until now, because he has had my respect ever since he beat Genaro Hernandez.

I meant he earned my repect as a human being as well as the respect I already had for him in the ring. I was assuming that would be the overall theme taken by readers who read my post.

NO matter how much people dislike floyd i don't see how anyone can not respect what he does in the ring. I hate the patriots but i make myself look silly if i run around saying they suck or look at thier off the field issues instead of what they do on the field. I really do hate the pats though.

I don't think he acted any different than he has in the past, if you see after Gatti fight he gave him major props as well, even though he called him C class fighter before the fight. He always gives his opponent's credit after the fight.

    Thats all an act.

Personally I dont think he even plays the flamboyant superstar very well tbh...he is clearly not comfortable with it imo.

I wont respect Floyd until he fights Cotto.

Floyd already left us wanting with the Margarito fight.

No respect for Floyd until he fights the real champ @ 147 and not some midget of 140.

Especially not the way he beat the midget. Sure his knock out was kool but everything that led upto that K.O was not the performance of a pound 4 pound champion. I am shocked Floyd was not allowed to use his stool against Hatton in a round or two.

Watching the fight Cotto can beat Mayweather, he has the style. Hatton was not stron enough and tired later in the fight and lost his discipline, no head movement and fighting in straight lines. Referee was way too quick in his intervention and Mayweather did not look great for long periods in the fight. Mayweather has not got a lot left he will retire soon. He has not the desire and size to take on the bigger legitamate Welters (Margareto, Moseley) or the time to take on the hungry young ones (Williams, Berto). He has acheived a lot and the big money is just comming in so he will try to manage his carreer to get the biggest money for the lowest risk. Therefore he will try and go for rematches with Oscar or Hatton.

Very much like Mayorga. He's gonna do your wife and says you are gay and fat etc etc. It sells the fight. After the fight win or lose it's always the same. He takes back what he said and acknowledges his opponent even with "fatty" Vargas who he didn't even need to. Floyd entered the venue with his sons, celebrated the fight with them too. Not anything like the image that is out there to promote the fights. Dont believe the hype.
