I'm looking for a quality speed ball for my son he's had two but they both only lasted a couple of months the wall brackets allways break at the welds we have got them repaired but they don't last. Can anyone recomend a good one & where it can be seen because I don't want to buy the same crap as the one's we have had

You should take one of the speedbag frames to a place that does welding and just throw them a $20 or something, and they'll make the welds tough enough to hang from the thing.... The original companies usually only do spot welds that are pretty poor.....

You may even want to consider getting a welder to make you up a frame from scratch.... It's be twice as strong as any you could buy, get a nice solid, thick peice of wood cut to shape and then screw it yourself...

Finally, make sure it's mounted very solidly so that it doesn't rock around when your punching..
Even just slight movement will wash the speed off the ball, and put more pressure on all the joints.


I honestly think it'll work out the same price, if not even a little cheaper than a decent store one, and will probably be a lot stronger/sturdier..


Finally, i've tested 4 swivels that the ball swings on, but my favourite by far is a Jim Bradley one..

It's as tough as the metal ones, but is compact so the ball hangs closer to the board which i've found it a lot better than the ones that hang a lot lower/away from the board.




But seriously after 2 have broken, you should look at getting a custom made one. Most guys that work in a welding place will do a bit of overtime or work through lunch to wip you up a frame for a couple of extra bucks...
You could probably even just take the broken one in and they will reinforce it to be stronger than it ever was originally..

I agree a custom frame is the way to go. You can even get a chin up bar added to the design to maximise space

An equipment recommendation really depends on where you live. IF you live in USA, I could recommend lots of equipment. If you don't live in USA I could recommend some foreign websites but I haven't used their equipment. The welding solutions offered above will probably work, but I would also look at why your brackets are breaking. Perhaps their not stable enough and the vibration of punching is putting too much stress on them.

Thanks for you help guys I'll tell you what I have done I contacted a local engineer who made me two angle iron bracketts which bolted to a 600x 600 piece of kitchen worktop 40mm thick bolted the whole lot to the wall it's 100% rigid & my son's happy thanks again for the advice
